About Strange to meet an old friend as part of the fence around a newly built Japanese home. I'm not too happy with the Tamron zoom I tried, so I think it's going back...

Oh Mickey looks very active running along. I wasn't sure what I was going to see from the thumbnail. This is quite cute for a fence. Not for my house, but cute on someone else's.

Rob, I think I was unlucky. I got it second hand, and it may have been damaged and not repaired. This lens, although slightly dated in design (having been superceded by 28-300mm zooms almost the same size and price), has a good reputation. I swapped it for an Ultron 40mm F/2, one of the very few modern-design lenses I use on my SLR. It is a cracker! I find the 40mm field of view quite congenial as a "standard" lens, and will probably get much less use out of my Helios 58mm F/2, which always feels too "narrow" for a standard to me. Nice image quality, though...

Rob, I just ran a test roll through the camera with it. Uneven torsion in zooming, wrong focus at infinity (clear at 200mm), bad barrel and pincushion distortion (had to do a lot to the Mikey fence to make it this rectangular, low contrast, flare, and (final straw) some colour aberrations (purple edges to dark/light seams). I rest my case!

Can't stand that wretched mouse, but this is rather amusing! Someone actually put this round their house?! Produces a great entry for the project.
