About This is a fisheye lens panorama of Chichibu city, where a whole mountain is being turned into cement. By keeping the horizon in the center of the picture, the typical fisheye distortion is minimized. I like this lens a lot, but controling the really strong (barrel) distortion is a challenge.

Bertram: shop scans are fine for the web. Flatbed scans are fine for MF negs--I have some really super prints made this way. But 90% of my fun is on the web, so shop scans are usually enough for me. My local operator will even scan the LH and RH "halves" of a long panorama negative if I ask her to (then I can stitch them together). Saves time at minimum cost.

Since I can expect to have access to a wet darkroom soon I stopped the scanner/inkjet issue. The more I learned about scanners the less enthusiastic I got.
Even a Minolta 5400 is only a toy for boys compared to what professional scanners get out of a neg, watching examples of comparisons you begin to cry.
Maybe I stick with lab scans for the web presentation as i did the last 2 years and do the printing myself in the wet darkroom.

Bertram, I am embarrassed by your praise for my scans. Mostly these days I use standard Fuji DPE shop scans to CD-ROM with the minimum of post processing. These are good if you can get the operator to go easy on the sharpening and colour correction. You must also specify "professional" scans, which use lower JPEG compression. In fact, I only ever scan 35mm film for my Widelux or TX-1 panoramas... my flatbed isn't really good enough for standard 35mm format (24 x 36mm). It's fine for 24 x 58mm (Widelux) or 24 x 67mm (TX-1). And of course I rely on it completely for 120 film scans (6 x 17cm). I am wondering whether to buy the Epson film scanner that will also scan direct to printer. It's almost exactly what I want but has had very mixed reviews...

Another kind of panorama, looks great ! The Zenitar is doing a good job and again I wonder how one can do such nice scans with a flatbed.

Great job by an expert lens man!!
I like the way you've 'closed off' the top of the picture using the overhanging branches, Roger!
Best regards, Chris

Great view, Roger. The sense of sprawl is very well conveyed. A pity!
