Hi Hugo, came across this shot and found it appealing. A good example of how even one small human form in a composition can change the overall impact. The small silhouetted figure (perhaps taking up less than 1/1000th of area of image) adds so much life and movement to this, coupled with the reflective wet floor.
As for the PS manipulation(the neverending debate),hard to give an absolute answer. I guess I see some hypocrisy. Any film/darkroom photographer who has corrected red eye or scratches...over or under exposed to achieve a desired result...or for that matter choose BW(is that not an artificial manipulation of an actual scene?). ect. ect. no end in sight
I happen to live in an area of the world that has more than it's share of light gray overcast days and have had more than a couple shots with bland sky that people have pointed out. It can be left as is and counted as a defect,or enhanced(judiciously)to be more pleasing. I've also seen so many otherwise good photographs ruined by heavyhanded PS.
Enough of my PS(persistant speculating). I think this is a very good composition that perhaps could use a little red reduction in the sky.

hugo... yes i had noticed the sole person in the photo, good for showing the scale of the place. my main point was that any attraction such as this is usually crawling with people and it is often hard to get a decent shot sans busloads of tourists. look at my shot of petra. i had to wait all day there until the site was almost closed to get that shot. i have to say however, there are much worse places to spend a day....

Hi James, as a follow-up on your thread in the forum, I noticed you commented on one of my photos. Even though short, it do find it useful. Although there is a person in it (had you noticed?) I always try to minimalise the capture of "unwanted" people, especially the masses of tourists in my photos. A few years back, a single person in one of my photos would've been an exception, untill someone commented on how a person adds a reference to the size and livens up an image, and since then I did try to capture an odd person (selectively) in my shots, as I found he was right.

You have no ideas how many times I tried to change a sky in a photo, because it looked dull and even "completely white". I can't do it properly and, in some photos it's almost an impossible work, sspecially when there are many trees at the horizon. Fortunately I hardly ever post landscapes. I think I have only one in my portfolio and I left it untouched, ( hahaha), although coloring the sky in a reasonable way on that one wasn't even very hard.

Hugo, my compliments for your PS work! I did not notice the modification of the sky. Something that I did not mention in my comment, but that was puzzling me, was the strong purple fringe around the wall. Usually this only happens if the sky is very bright, so that is explained now! And there is another clue: the reflection of the sky under the arc is brighter than the sky itself :)

Even better than the previous, in my opinion... this photo also has a good depthm and the reflections are particularly nice here. The presence of the small figure is great, it points out the large scale of these buildings. The clouds add to the atmosphere and their blue colour makes a good contrast with the yellowish stones.

Hi Hugo, what a perfect day this was when you photographed this, couldn't have asked for anything better. PERFECTLY photographed of course! I like the detail in the shadows, and in the building. LOVE the blue reflection of the sky, and the mirror image of the building.
For a second I thought 'oh boy, I get to tell Hugo it's tilted'....LOL But, alas, the more I looked at it I realize it isn't tilted since both sides line up well. It's just the interior view and the perspective giving the optical illusion!! Oh well.........LOL

Emgy, you are a hero! From your comment, I presume you didn't read my "confession", but you are absolutely right. The sky is a phoney. I explained why I decided to replace the sky in my comment, but in brief: it was an experiment to see if anybody would notice, but also to create the atmosphere that I remember that was there, but in the original shot the sky was rather bleak and dull. It's something I've never done before on UF, and that is not likely to be repeated...

Hugo, I wrote a comment on this photo late last night after I had commented on the two previous shots of the mosque. Much to my surprise I've just seen that it isn't there. Maybe I hit the back buttom too early, or it just disappeared.
Anyway... I have no time to repeat the long comment right now so I'll just resume it.
I like this photo in all aspects and I believe it would have been the best of the three, were it not for the sky which looks a little strange.I mean.... the colour is not what I would have expected and it is sharper than the buildings. Sorry, Hugo, I enlarged the image only cause I know it isn't of you to change parts of an image and I wanted to be certain it wasn't only a trick of my weary eyes at that late hour. In the enlargement you can see better what I mean as the building complex looks more blurred than the sky. Moreover there are a few spots that betray the change. I'm only pointing this out cause, coming from you, I was just surprised, that's all. Anyone is free to make changes on PS and it is fun. Also...I'm am curious to know how the original looks like cause I'm pretty sure that it looks great all the same.
BTW, overlooking the replacement of the sky, this is to me the best of the three mosque shots and it's absolutely outstanding work.

when I talked about the left side I didn't thought the black dots are from the new sky,
that was only to explain where I can see that the edge is not exactly natural ;)
I think the delivery is 2-3 weeks to go :(
It seems the old one knows that I ordered a new one and now he is insulted ;) and works only for 10min every try...

You are right, the sky in the porches is changed too, and the slightly off colour in the reflection is a give away. The strongest sign of the manipulation is the turquoise building on the horizon, and the edge of the pillar on the right. The black spots on the left are actually there in the original...
First, I had a different photo in mind to conclude the triptych, but I decided against it. In selecting another, I found this one appealing, but for the sky. As an experiment if anybody would spot it, I changed it beyond the level that can be achieved in a dark room, something I never do.

to be honest I didn't saw on the first look that you did some sky modifications, but I had the impression that the colour of the sky and the reflection on the floor doesn't match, but I never thought of PS.
And now with this knowledge I'm looking much more critical ;), I think I can find signs of inserting on the left side on the higher building with the two small black dots, on the the right side there are also some signs.
And how about the sky in the right passage? I would guess that also the sky is not original from this pic.
Unfortunately I don't have the time to look at each photo very intensive, but you showed us that a photo is quite often not only the reality.

I would like to thank everybody for their comments and constructive critisism.
This shot was manipulated in Photoshop, other than changing the levels, contrasts and saturation. As the original photo had quite a bleak sky, without any details, I changed it with the sky from a different photo of the same mosque, mainly as an experiment to see if anybody would notice.... I don't think anybody did, though....
I do promise that this was a one-time experiment, and that all other photos in my portfolio and the ones to come are genuine as they were shot, only using photoshop to correct elements that could also be corrected with conventional dark room techniques. If this changes anybody's opinion, please let me know....;o)

It would have been a pure photographic exercise, but the human presence gives another meaning to the image, even if he runs only to repair from the rain (this is the funny side), it makes me understand the immensity and the grandeur of this place, joined to the great silence, to the reflections and to the dramatic sky (this is the magic side).

ahhh, more water! excellent! one of the things i wished "II" had was a bigger puddle to increase the reflections. beautiful colors and detail. i can feel the textures here much better than the previous 2 photos. btw, what do i see through the arch in the middle? looks like a patch of desert and a big blue building. another mosque??
for the life of me, i can figure out the (relatively) low rating here as this is a beautiful shot. i'm going to assume that altaf is still mucking with the ratings system.

Hi Jeff, That, or so I was told, is exactly the thing the moroccan people have to deal with. We were fortunate to see the mosque during a (temporary) shower.... It only lasted for about 5 minutes, and then it cleared up again.... Like in the photo I sent you.

Hi Chris, Hmmmm.... Sounds like a very familiar issue. Apart from the pretty poor sturdiness of the S602z, the low Mpix rate is one of the things why I didn't buy myself a new one. I've been looking for a Digital SLR for a while now, almost ready to spend a whole lot of money.... But I'll never dispose of my ME Supers.... With the f1.7 50mm lens they can't be beat. And spare parts as well as bodies are still available at reasonable prices (they go for about ?50,- nowadays)

Another fine picture of this imposing structure. Once again, the inclusion of a figure gives the viewer a good idea of the immense scale of this building.
Good straight verticals, and the wet surface adds further interest.

This image is beautiful, peaceful and almost unreal.
The reflection of the wet floor, the colour, the crop.
the only person on the picture that gives an idea of size.
It is just great Hugo.

Hugo,very good shot,ryhtmic passage of composition from the foreground to backgroung is great, and again atmosphere is very impressive with rainy weather and huge scale architecture of the mosque.Moreover the nice architectural details and the running person have enriched the composition.
