About A summer monsoon storm moves across the Grand Canyon.

Just back from yet another road trip. Detoured through the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. Though I wasn't lucky enough to have a closer-in lightning bolt, my goal was to get at least one at the Grand Canyon that day. So far, this is what I've got but still lots of photos to go through.

Damn, I've obviously underestimated your ability to "take the bait" Dave. I don't even know HOW to combine photos! LOL (I envy the technological savvy of these UF artists here who obviously are very accomplished at doing so!) Besides you can always go back to the Watchtower the next time severe thunderstorms are predicted right? You lucky bastard! LOL Best regards Mr. Arnold -john

Thanks, Peter... it is the monsoon season here and that's all I seem to be doing is chasing lightning lately... which is one of my fav things to do.

SAY WHAT, John? Combine TWO photos? Well, I would NEVER! LOL.

Actually, I was very torn between capturing a sure thing sunset or the unsure lightning storm. So I had moved my tripod in between the "good light" in the canyon and this lightning bolt capture...

Ah.....those are the times Dave that I have the tripod set up snap a few, then wait for the fireworks to begin, snap a few more, go home and combine 'em into something playful. :) It's great fun isn't it? Well done. -john

Great shot Dave... love the dramatic clouds, lightening bolt and vastness caused by the wide angle lens. Would have been killer if there were more light in the canyon... but I know that's hard to accomplish in just one visit. Good stuff though, Dave! I love seeing the variety in your images, and all really have something that other's don't. I can tell you really reach out to get that extra "something special" in all your images. They ROCK!!! ;) 7/7

John.... thanks so much.. I have to agree about the canyon color, unfortunately this was taken well after sundown.... and the colors were gone. 20 minutes before, the canyon walls were spectacularly lit and shadowed both. But, no captures of the lightning during that light.

Wow Dave this is a most fortunate (and potentially dangerous)capture, this shot would be great if we could get some of that magical canyon color contrasting those sandstone striations.....perhaps? Very nicely done my friend. Best regards, -john
