About My second color painting of the night, fresh out of the camera. This is an old Route 66 gas station, Whiting Brothers, a historical landmark on 66. Thanks to Brigitte Reed for looking it up for me. I couldn't remember the name tonight.

This was painted with flash and a camping lantern that was placed inside the building. It was covered in a lime green cloth, giving that greenish tint.

The front flash had a blue gel that turned purple with the bleed over from the red. The overhead canopy, flash painted with a red strobe. The side of the building was strobed using a green gel.

I also shot off another flash inside the building, using a red filter and creating the red frame of the window.

This was a 2 minute, 3 second exposure at ISO 100, f10.

Thank you John. But the owner had nothing to do with it. I colored the gas station with light during my photo.

Best wishes,
Dave

Hey, thanks for finding the name of that place. I have a daylight pic of it and/or the original sign that still stands on the other side of the roadway... I just didn't have time to look it up and I'm a bit exhausted so I couldn't remember.

The sign in your daylight picture is now gone, it finally fell off and has been taken to storage in preparation for a New Mexico Rte 66 Museum.

I learned a lot on this shoot... the camping lantern was used behind the chair in some of my Cafe shoots but was too bright. I need to cover it with a colored t-shirt or something. In the gas station, I covered it with my safety vest, a lime green one... but at the exposure times, it was still coming out too bright.

In answer to your question, the cafe picture I posted was my 8th attempt.... and I reckong my first choice of a good shot.

Wow, this is impressive. Not just one painted building, but two in one night and both very successfully created! It sure seems like you've done this before. I really, really like this a lot! I like the effect on the canopy, how it has multiple colors and that is a neat idea about using a camping lantern to illuminate the interior... it all worked together so well like a well composed symphony!

I went to Google the city and found a few other buildings and was going to ask you to do them, but when I came back I saw this building posted already! Talk about quick delivery Anyways, the name of it is W/B (Whiting Brothers) Station...and here's a photo of it!

Super nice one, Dave! 7+++++

(still can't believe you did this all tonight and got it posted so quickly! )
