A dilapidated old house a few meters up from the now closed off Chapmans Peak drive. To your right would be Hout Bay and just in front is the East Fort. Taken a few minutes before sunset (sun to the right.)
I have converted this to B&W but I felt it lost much from the lack of that warm yellow colour (if enough people clamour I will put up a B&W version.)
As a beginner amateur I was quite happy I managed to get both the sun-facing wall in without burning anything out as well as getting some detail in the dark shadowed areas behind the house. I did though loose detail on the far right, it was just too much I assume for the film?
Unfortunatley this was just a few days before I got my circular polariser and so the sky is washed out on the right. I will be returning to this spot some time soon with a polariser and hopefully get the sky in a better mood :)
I also found the subject a bit tough to compose. How much of the background should I include? What angle is best for this subject? Should I have done a tighter shot?
I have cropped the original frame a bit and put in the black frame. Also upped the contrast every so slightly. And I can assure you the colours are quite natural, this is close to what I saw in real life. Cape Town has some incredibly warm colours at sunset, sometime you look at the yellow and pink mountains and think "Is this for real?"
if you crop out ANYthing, i'd say crop it just above the top of the palm tree. i believe the colors...arizona is the same way - incredible sunsets. i love the angle that you used to compose the image, it's very pleasing.
