Another photo from the Noordhoek, Cape Town area. After my first wave photo I wanted to get some new ones now that I had a polariser. Unfortunatley I did not realise how much gradient a side-on-to-the-sun shot would produce. Well as you can see, it is quite a lot. Dodging and burning does not help and I think this is an effect I will just have to live with. I certainly cannot move this mountain so it is side on to the sun and then retake :-D
The most interesting part about this photo to me was my location. Off frame to my left was a large rock which I used as a shield from the waves. It\'s base was about a foot above the sea level and the waves were not breaking over it. I thought it was a safe enough location and it offered some unusual shots like this which were side on to the wave break line and right down low.
It was safe until a rather large wave broke and came rushing around my rock, knocking my legs out from underneath me and giving me a thorough soaking in the ice cold Atlantic waters (it may be summer here, but the Atlantic side always has cold water.) Thankfully my only thought was \"My camera!\" which I kept high above me in outstretched arm. It got a bit damp but, kudos to Canon, never missed a beat. I had to clean the filter on my lens quite often however. So it was a fun episode, life is great when taking photograps!
Nice action shot of the waves. The colour on the rocks is beautiful, as you say, as shame about the sun on the left, but then the challenge of nature is that you have to take it as it is. The sky colour is really beautiful (good to see you enjoying that polariser!) and looks great in contrast to the white surf and the warm rocks.
