After taking the Everyday Utopia shot I was wondering down the shore line watching the setting sun. Then I saw this scene with the pool of water and the wonderful rock line, I quickly set up my tripod and tried to capture in the dying light what I think is a fabulous scene. I have another of exact same composition, but without the breaking wave, they both work but I think this one will be more popular with the added dynamic of that wave. The sky is bright, but not much I can do about that (the sun was too my right, I used my shadow to protect the lens as I have no hood yet.) The top has been cropped a bit and some PS dogding and burning done. Once again far better in B&W, I really am enjoying taking B&W shots, they cut out the crutch that colour so often is. Once again the 640x640 size restriction takes quite a bit of detail and impact away IMO, comment if you want a larger version.
Brilliant shot. The location and subject are beautiful and you have composed them expertly. As you note, the sky is too bright, and more importantly uneven, also the reflection in the tide pool suffers from the same uneveness. I think some judicious burning is in order here. It's one of those weird photographic situations where what the camera records looks somehow artificial. I agree with you entirely that 640x640 is too small for this and many photographs. Thanks for posting this.
