A cyclist makes a last push as he crests the top of Wynberg Hill in the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour 2003 here in Cape Town. It is a 109km race and by this point riders have done 90kms of that 109. In this photo I went for the panning effect, tracking the subject, using a slow shutter all to get the subject in focus and the background streaked. My only niggle is that the sky was overcast that day and even with a polariser (which I left off for this because it would not help) the sky becomes almost a solid colour that looks overexposed. Ah well.
Great action shot, the panning gave the desired effect nicely. As you say, it's a shame about the sky, which makes the shot appear slightly overexposed and a little soft. Can't chose the weather!
