I like the black and white one better only because it's more dramatic. This is gorgeous, but if I wanted to hang it on my wall, I'll go for the drama!
Excellent work, both 7+++ Lori :)

Giovanni, thanks for stopping by. No panoramic head, handheld shots stitched with PanoTools under PtGUI user interface, quite versatile software and user friendly, too. Ciao; Carsten

hi carsten - i like how the colour version of this shot holds the details in the shadow areas in the upper left corner. On my screen, in the b&w version, the mountain disappears into the sky with no definition there. I also like how, in this stark environment, the colour photo almost is in b&w - there are so few colours found there, except that glorious blue sky. I also find that the blue of the sky really helps pull me back into the piece & so it has more of a feeling of depth & perspective to me than the b&w version. Beautifully composed & created.

Quite the amazing photo. I am somewhat turned off by the corny lens flare here. It takes away from the beauty in this photo I believe

I must confess a preference for the BW, but why would one have to choose? Both exist and I would hang one in the living room and the other one in the other room .... congrats on the award, my friend. And Dirck has a good eye...I didn't notice the flare either! Antonia

David, no trouble. I was not 100 percent satisfied myself after stitching, because some of the ice cracks were softened in the seams. I could try a workaround with a dozend more control points in PanoTools, but it is sooo time consuming - my wife will visit the divorce lawyer ;-)

Dirck, you have a sharp eye ;-) I did not notice that flare spot, but now I find it distracting and will clone it out. Thank you for stopping by !

Nice composition, good job avoiding under or overexposure with such a range of brighnesses. I do feel the foreground works though... the vastness of the expanse of the cirque needs to be shown, and this is effective.

nice one Carsten. Great work on the light. The only critique I might have is the massive foreground. For my taste the foregrounds is not that interesting to be so massive. The interestings details (the cracked snow, the mountain top) all seem to be pushed to the edges leaving a fairly uniform white space as the center of the frame. You know that I like your work very much. When I say those things I just write my thoughts just as I would think if it was my own photo.

Carsten, such a great shot! Such a beautiful and crisp feel to this. The sun flare is perfect and the rule of thirds is handled beautifully. Absolutely gorgeous. Best Regards Peter

Gorgeous and majestic result, Carsten - it looks so pristine - untouched an unspoiled by man! These vertical panos of yours achieve such an amazing sense of depth! I see that little flare again in this one, making a hole in the mountainside :) Maybe it could be cloned out? That's really just nit-picking, though - this is a breathtaking photo!

Looks multi-dimensional on my screen with the steep climb. The details are incredible. I am also thinking avalanche but the photographer's still alive so that's not an issue!

MIchael, it was windy and cold (-10 ?C / 14 ?F). And I got wet feet wading through deep snow to reach those thick sheets of ice...

Great detail, perspective, and DOF. This image flows really well, my only comment is that I bet you were freezing when you shot it. I'd still rather be in Florida! Thanks for sharing. 7/7
