Very fine picture of a forest road, the lights, the mist, the glows are like from a German romantic painting. I have also enjoyed the discussions on this picture and on the use of PS. Best regards, György

Hi Carsten,

really a perfect landscape shot with the strong DOF, the perfect detail in the fog and the gradient in the sky. I like the wide angle look here, the road leads to infinity.

best wishes,
Thilo

It looks as if we may have more things in common than a love of wide angles and stitched panoramas! Your attitude to PS is mine exactly, except that I have not gone on to acquire all the skills needed, and tend to rely on plug-ins to do most of the work for me. (This is partly because I spend all day in front of a computer and don't want to spend more leisure time in front of it than really needed.) The original is very revealing. Sometimes Chris Spracklen shows an original, and the brilliance of his PS work is immediately apparent, as is yours here...

Roger, thank you very much for your thoughtful comment. "Softlight accent" means PS composite technique, with a background layer copy in "soft light" blending mode over the original. This accentuates color contrast, is often more appealing than simply pulling the contrast slider. Your statement is a great compliment, since I tried not to overdo my PS work here (as much as needed, but not too much).
After my first feeling of success with PS, I was in an enthusiastic state and had a fatal tendency to overdo PS tweaking (and, not to forget: you are rewarded for intense PS work, get more and better comments ! Most popular are strong colors, contrasts, and people become accustomed to the perfect digitally mastered photo, right ?). At the moment I am sort of undecided, sometimes I strive for the natural look, sometimes I go over the top, just for more intense expression of my feelings. The good thing with PS is, you have the freedom to decide how much.
Here the straight out of the camera original, resized.

Cheers

Carsten

Barry, what a nice analogy ! It seems as if we share the same fondness for red wines ;-)

Great use of light. I think I prefer your original to Shane's which lacks the structure of the original. I'd liken it to the difference between a good Margaux and a good Australian wine. The Margaux has structure and layer upon layer of complex flavour whereas the Aussie wine will be sumptuous and immmediately enjoyable but once the immediate gratification is over it's all a bit one dimensional.

Fabulous light and PS work, Carsten.
A beautiful scene immaculately rendered.
Best regards, Chris

Shane, agree completely on the center part.

But... Imagine a nude: sometimes, speaking for myself, a complete view is sometimes more attractive than a close-up ;-)

Joking aside, I like the contrast of the foreground lead-in and the brighter center part, makes this part shine a bit more, IMO

Cheers

A most beautiful image. I don't know what "softlight accents" are--perhaps some kind of PS filter?--but the end result is a most convincingly natural image that quite disarms my normally uneasy reaction to such manipulation! The "exposure" (actually two or perhaps three different exposures?) is perfect. Very impressive.

wonderful composition, Carsten! the lighting at the foggy area is most sensitive, a delightful touch of magic, making the scenery quite fantastic and poetic. it's full of silence, beauty and mystery, and i wouldn't wonder if just passing the curve i would find an Unicorn.

This scene does have quite a wide range of light. You have captured the mood very well. Don.
