Great tight shot. Vertical composition is superb. I especially like the tones and textures of the buildings.

P.S. oops...cancel that last part, you already DID comment on that one. Please forgive me (I wish there were some way to erase embarrassing remarks).

I should have tuned in about your color decisions here. This one seems to have less density that I'm used to in yours, and it does look very natural. It is so tough for me to critique your work because I know you put so much thought into everything and it would be so rare for you not to have made a calculated choice, and rarer for me to feel different about the ones you make. I consider you MY mentor, Carsten and I get a kick out of finding something to help you on. Thanks for the congrats, BTW. It is exciting for me. I hope you won't miss coming in to comment directly on that one instead of here, because I'm going to print this one out with all of them and if you weren't there I'd be sad. Hugs. Antonia

Chris, thanks for stopping by. Nice to hear that you are a RAW / composite fan like me. Our eyes and the lens / sensor see quite differently, so we have to work hard for natural looking results sometimes. This was a single handheld RAW, converted with C1 as under- to overexposed TIF. My problem here is the blown-out sky, dynamic range was so wide that I should have made exposure bracketing, but had no tripod.

Antonia, thank you for your meticulous comment. Now that you say it... the sky color is really a bit wild, at least on this monitor (not my laptop). I will have to go for a color calibration (or make B&W...). Funny that you ask for more color saturation. This is a rework of a RAW shot (the former upload is from my "paintbox period"), and I suppressed my temptation to pull the sliders in PS. At the moment, I`m hell-bent on a more natural looking result - same thing with sharpening (tried to avoid oversharpen). Sigh... BTW: Congrats to your double-award !

Hi Carsten, I see you are using the multiple exposures as well?? You guessed right on the other shot of mine you commented on. I usually do that for wide latitude scenes (sunrises esp.) to cover a wider exposure range. However, you can only go between 1-2 stops for each exposure, or else the effect is rather unatural looking. I find this works better than using masked adjustment layers, as each exposure is original to each shot, and not fudged with in PS, which amplifies some problems like grain/visible noise.
Cheers, Chris

I really enjoy alleys like this, and this one has a lot going for it, as does the preceding post, in particular the varying textures and grades of color in the walls and shutters, as well as color harmony. My suggestions: push the color (I'd like richer) and textures more (through toning and sharpening?). The sky looks a little too purple at the top and is very different than the other pieces of it that can be seen below, which doesn't feel quite right. Perhaps the color and gradation between those can be evened out a bit. Antonia
