I wonder in a ND filter would have helped you get the dark end exposed? Do you know how many stops of contrast you D70 can record? You may want to find out who the owner is and get permission. Look like a great old barn to shoot. I bet there are many opertunities if you could explore.

Love this, love old barns and abandoned houses. So much character. The sky is the loveliest shade of aqua blue, the foreground a frame of vivid colour. You still have some lush green grass blending beautifully with the barn.
