Jim, how did you manage to focus on the Heron flying away from you. Were you on manual focus? You had fairly good results considering the dificulty of this shot.

Jim; This is a nice photo, and though the Heron may be the focal point, IMO it's really the rest of the composition that makes the image so successful, ie the Heron in its environment. The foreground bushes make a nice diagonal across the center of the frame, and the BG is nicely out of focus. The vertical tree trunk adds dynamics and that's also where the sharpness and detail are. The square cropping you've used is a strong framing I think. Geez-- I should be a critic;>) Cheers. Craig
