I can't think of anyone more deserving of POD. Congrats! I have to admit, while I like your adventurous experimentations with processing, I wasn't too keen on your first 2 cyanotypes. BUT I have to say this process suits your refractions perfectly! I love the way it conveys motion and emotion. Great work!

Thanks all for the kind comments - it was fun to open up the old mailbox this morning :-)
David - haven't done digital negs but it should work as long as one can get them dense enough. As Jim points out 8x10 negs for cyanotypes is a bit of overkill.
Megan - I used the "new cyanotype" process by Mike Ware for printing: http://www.mikeware.demon.co.uk/cyano.html The good news is that the photographer's formulary makes a kit with all the chemicals for about usd 20, good for 25-50 8x10 or so they say. The image itself is the result of a laser beam refracted in an oddly shaped piece of glass, projected directly onto the film.

ah, Stefan, your beautiful and mysterious translucent beings become even more so..i am proud of your POTD, you so deserve the honor! what amazes me is the filmy characteristic of the subject is subdued but not lost in the thick blue texture of the processing. i'm not sure if i would like something finer, more filmy still..but these look like they are emerging from the deep, just as you say, coming up into the light from a murky bottom of otherworldly creatures. Congrats, Stefan!

Hi Stefan:
Yes, I see a certain irony in creating an 8x10 neg for blueprint paper. But who can quibble with the results? They are magnificent!
To me the real thing of beauty here is the ameoba-like fractal pattern you've achieved. I've experimented with digital fractal\s via Kai's Frax Flame (KPT effects) filter and never ever have been able to achieve anything that comes close to this -- either in it's balance or in the fact that it combines linear, spheroid and spiral elements all in the same image. Superb, Stefan. Absolutely superb! --jim

Stefan, Absolutely artful image! I get lost in it--which is the woderful thing about abstracts. They are something different for you everytime you look at them until they bring you to a place you've never been.
I'm totaly unfamiliar with this process...if you get some time could you elaborate?
Very well done.
Sincerely, Megan

Whoa, another new idea gleaned from the folks at usefilm! I have sunprint paper -- which requires only a light source and water to process. My light source can now be my lightbox! I'm set! It is so dreary here and I was going to wait for a sunny Summer day to try this out but you've inspired me. I only hope my results turn out as well. I'm so glad you posted this, I wish more experiments were shown, I learn so much more from those than the slick, over-processed, tack-sharp images. Alternative processing rules!
