About This is simple composite consisting of the foreground and a sky layer. Actually, the original image, taken against a clear blue sky has a lot going for it. Not being able to leave well enough alone, however, I created a "sunrise" sky by taking two rather ordinary photos of clouds, boosting contrast with a curves adjusement layer, desaturating, colorizing, blending them together using a Layer Mask and the Soft Light blending mode and compositing them with the original. Comments and observations welcome -- I'm especially interested in thoughts on the style and feel of this image.

this is greaaat! - the red chimney does stay prominant - sky very intense adding to the overall drama - the shadows and lines work brilliantly

Hello Masahiko:

To me the most import subject in this scene is the small red chimney, which is why I placed it at the intersection of thirds -- which in classical composition theory consists of four "dymanic" points at which objects acquire increased visual gravity. There a plenty of exceptions to classical composition, but in this case, I think the positioning of the red chimney does make it the dominant element.

Nicly composed. Great color and sharpness.

Jim the original with the blue sky is very good, but the whole of the added sky being in the same colour tones makes this such a striking image to me.

Beautiful!! But where is your chief point? The sky? The chimney, the wall or shadow?About the shadow ,it is too much.

I like the juxtaposition of the chimneys they line up very nicely the lighting is probably a little harder than it would be in the morning but seems to work well, the sky layer is fantastic, I am going to try that out myself, I couldn't get a better teacher, great shot Jim - Richard.

Hi Jim,i loved what you did to the chimneys, and although thefinal result is very striking,im not so sure about the sky and the sunrise. Its still a very strong shot
