About If looks could kill. Shot this while shooting candids in Manhattan. I read his eyes later. It was manipulated in PS.

Putting this in critiquers corner. My question is about the composure. I know he is centered but with the bench situated in the manner it was, does this offset his center framing?

Thanks in advance for your critique.

Dave... I would probably clone out the entire background (behind this guy's head...) And maybe crop the right viewing side a tad... but I really like what you have captured in the expression of a man who is maybe not so much in hate as in fear.... do they equate? I think so...

Probably I should not be making any comments when I am dying here of sleep deprivation at 6:00am... lol...

Love.. :)

Thanks, Riny... Maybe he was "pleasant"... but for some reason, I didn't hang around to find out.

Appreciate the critique!

That's okay, Dave...I don't actually find it that terribly distracting. You're welcome.:)

Thanks, Shirley. Actually, I didn't want to selectively desaturate anything. The method used, to create a pencil drawing style result, made the majority of the items in the photo come out looking as if I had selectively desaturated. I guess the result is the bright colors in the background become too distractive.

Thank you, Chelsea. I wasn't worried about it (background) since it was somewhat subdued. But I can see what you mean.

Best to you,
Dave

Yeah...scary look, Dave! I usually don't like the subject of a portrait centered either, but this does not bother me. I do feel it is offset some by his position on the bench and that thing to the right. Agree about desaturating the background at top.:)

OK, second idea, I just had a bit of a play with it.... you could try just de-saturating the colured bits behind his head, perhaps also blurring them slightly, leaving him in colour.
Just another idea.....

Hey there Dave, strong expression on this face!!
Have you cropped this at all? If not, does your original framing allow you some room either side to move him left or right?
The bench, while not being as wide as the frame, does give some balance, but I would prefer the fellow to be not central in the frame.
Also, I agree with Chelsea about the distracting elements in the background. Perhaps you could try this in B+W. I think it may give more strength to the image. Just a suggestion.
cheers, Beks

The centered composition doesn't bother me, but all the "clutter" behind his head causing a distraction does.
