About Probably not one in a hundred Japanese will know the origins of Halloween in "all souls night" because not one in a hundred of the population is a practising Christian. But celebration of the tradition in terms of displays, etc., is quite common. There's less "trick 'n treat." Here is a little display in one of the shopping areas frequented by young people (teens to twenties).

Mary, any Japanese who become aware of how much candy western parents give to their children are horrified. It was my son's birthday and we partied on Saturday (Oct. 14). I brought a little pack of candy in a "Kitty" bag for his 3yr-old daughter but he whisked it away and said "I'll save that for later" but I wonder... Plants are much nice--and last a lot longer!

It is really intersting how the Japanese seem to put plants in everything. It is pretty. Here, there would be candy in those containers.
