Excellent observations, thanks Chris :)

Had a good look through your portfolio. Very impressed with your use of colour and your control of saturation nearly all of your images have the feel of paintings the recent building shots are almost cartoon like. :)

Gyuri, in some cases I use these also to cut on cloud whites which might give the image an imbalance and draw your eye to the top. They act as a fix-up too :)

György Szönyi György Szönyi   {K:10011} 1/26/2006
Dear Ina, I know everything you write about and I agree. I know you hardly ever use frame (as opposed to me) and that you are very careful with those you finally employ. I also know that the bars amplify the orientation effect and that it provides a cinematic perspective. Precisely it is because of the latter that I have a slight aversion since they remind me of the black stripes I see on the tv screen when I watch a wide screen film. But I also know that "de gustibus non est disputandum", so please, forget about the whole thing. I really enjoyed this gorgeous landscape of yours. Cheers, Gy.

Ina Nicolae Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/26/2006
Hi Gyuri, I wouldn't have anything left and right because it restrains the view, your mind is allowed to continue the image left and right, as the picture has a horizontal composition. I wouldn't have the top and bottom bars either, but they strengthen the panoramic feel, plus it looks like a cinematic image. On a vertical composition, vertical bars would do the same, allow your eye to continue the image up and down. I'm very careful about frames, and most of the time (except for these panos) I prefer to have no frame at all. It's a personal preference, it took me a long time to even use these :) Cheers, Ina

That there is a black stripe on top and bottom and nothing left and right. Gy.

I'm not sure what you mean by asymmetric framing?

  0

György Szönyi György Szönyi   {K:10011} 1/26/2006
Hi Ina, absolutely beautiful landscape, stunning, gorgeous, vivid colors, sharp, good composition. My only - personal! - problem is the asymmetric framing, it reminds me of wide screen films watched on regular tv. But I see that many photographers like this style of framing on UF. Cheers, Gyuri

I don't think I ever got out of the sharpness phase; I think what happened was that I became more "enlightened" and hip to the blurry image. Some things were meant to be sharp.

Michael Kanemoto Michael Kanemoto   {K:22115} 1/25/2006
Solid. I think you know that from the comments/views.

Ina Nicolae Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/25/2006
Thanks Mark, I'm still in the "sharpness" phase, I can't say I ever get tired of sharp images (yet) - but as you say, it's possible after a while :) In places like this, the scenery does the job, you don't have to search too hard for a view. I'll be posting another two from Flaming Gorge with that funnel cloud.

Mark Beltran   {K:32612} 1/25/2006
I'm just awestruck. You're really flexing your muscles with this one. With digital, I don't miss Kodachrome all that much anymore, except the fact that I can still hold a slide in my hand and a digital image is in cyberspace.

Ina Nicolae Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/24/2006
Thanks very much Alan, it has been cropped to fit the panoramic format, and color/ contrast/ sharpness adjusted. The original was more washed out, but everything was there! Best regards, Ina

Thanks very much Jim, I'm rediscovering a bunch of landscapes that work with the panoramic format, and hope to post a few more. Sharpness is a constant pursuit :) Unless I deliberately blur an image, anything that's not sharp goes to trash in my "bin".

Thanks very much Hugo :) I think I'm starting to believe in the F64 club :) I'm hoping to bring some more of these landscapes to life. Sharpness is becoming a passion :) Best regards, Ina

Wow! Great lighting, perspective, sharpness, depth of field, etc. This is one of the strongest images I've seen in your portfolio. The dramatic clouds really add to the atmosphere of this landscape. Congratulations on a fantastic capture.

Hi Ina, Spectacular shot, the lighting, scattering the pattern of the clouds over the landscape really makes this one sing. Superb clarity and a awesome feel. Regardless of how "basic" and limited photoshop tweaking was needed, it was definitely done expertly. The contrast and saturation do make this image come alive, I believe. Awesome shot, Top Notch work indeed....

Cheers,

Hugo

I'm going to reply anyway because I like being defiant. :) (hehe)

I've seen photos of this place but never anything like this topography. It's more like what you'd see in Utah or Arizona. That's what I found so fascinating.

I've just about caught up with the "fan mail" as I like to call it. (hehe) and feeling quite tired now. I won't be able to play the musical keyboard for some time now. Fingers worn out on the computer keyboard. ;)

Thanks and cheers for now

Ann :)

Heh-heh, Ann! I keep following you in your multiple backyards: CA, WY, AK. I've not been to Oregon yet, but I think this place is right between CO and WY. A very lovely recreation area with a huge lake (or so it looks on the map). We didn't have time to drive all the way around it, because it was getting late, but I'm sure it's worth a good day of shooting :)
OK, no reply needed, you must be swamped by new messages today :)

WOW WOW WOW Ina,

This is awesome!. The composition, the colours, the details, the clarity, the amazing sky all superb. I have to see this place. This one is right up my alley. Into my faves this one goes. I just love it. It's breathtaking.

Thanks also for your encouraging words and support on my images.

Cheers - Ann :)

Thank youso much Susie! In these places it hard not to get a good picture. The sky was in the late afternoon, and I think there was a distant storm somewhere, I was happy how sharp it turned out. I have many landscapes from WY, and not just from NP's - it was a fabulous area. Best regards, Ina

Amazing landscape of the wonderful scenery. Great picture Ina, I like the color contrast created between warm colors on mountains and desert bushes and dramatic dark blue skies. Huge gradient and fabulous palette of colors. I've never been that far north there, but it reminds me scenes from Arizona, Nevada and South Utah. Marvelous, wow. Cheers, n.j

P.S. yes Ina I like the early spring time here in Southern Ontario

Hi Jacques, if I remember well it was the N-E part of the National Recreation Area, coming from Hwy 191 there is a Flaming Gorge Rd. that takes you to the boat lauch. We came from Denver - never made it all around the lake because it was getting dark, but this is my best recollection. (I'm a Canadian :)

Can you tell me which part of the park we can see on this pic, we're planning for our 2006 summer trip, and will go to the West of your country. Looks like a very nice place, so we could stop there. There is two campground at Flaming gorge national recreation area, is it near of buckboard crossing campground?

Thank you Kathy, if you go to nice places (such as National Parks) the landscapes are there. In Colorado and Wyoming I had these skies all the time, there is little need to manipulate them other than the basics. This is a lesser known area (I think) - Wyoming was one of my all time favorite places.

Wow, Ina! As I was looking at this I was wondering if the sky was added, but I couldn't see any evidence of it. Then read your about and see that you were fortunate enough to have a great sky on the day that you took this. The panorama view is SO good...great clarity and details! Well done Ina!
