About This was shot at the same time and on the same fence as my earlier Penguin image. The sunset did give rich warm colour and made for strange reflections in the ice but for enhancement (and just for fun) I did bump the contrast. I didn't add any of what appear to be blemishes. Those dark patches are the natural texture of the ice with the warm setting sun's light catching on them.

Thanks again to all who take the time to view and comment on my images.

Cheers - Ann :)

Winter isn't all cold and snow - it's also fun and mysterious. This picture captures that side of winter. The combination of the warm colours with the cold subject matter is a humorous juxtaposition that I really like. I came across your portfolio because of the waterfall shot in the featured critique of the day. What a wonderful collection of images... then I was blown away to realise that you so graciously commented on one of my pictures (the one called Nature's Brew). You wondered if I was new to Usefilm - I actually joined a couple years ago but recently I bought a slide scanner (I shoot slide film almost exclusively) and that has prompted a lot more personal activity on Usefilm. Thanks for your comments and I look forward to seeing more of your wonderful shots in the future - keep up the great work.

Hello Ann, beautiful abstract like capture. Just an opinion, I'd crop the entire top portion till the top edge of the icicles, use the scroll bottom on right of screen & you'll see what I mean. Well seen otherwise, kind regards.

Ann I sense the un usual type of this abstract but can’t characterized on any form.
And that’s what makes it enigmatic to me.
Very cool!

Thanks for dropping by Hugo. I like simplistic shots. Throw a nice warm sunset onto some icicles and a bit of P/S enhancing magic and I have the unusual in the usual. A hot cold shot. An oxymoron so to speak. :)

Yes the different takes on Michael's panoramic images is interesting. Different strokes for different folks I guess. We all have varying tastes and see things differently. Life would be boring if we all liked and disliked the same things.

Thank you for taking the time to drop by and comment on my images.

Cheers - Ann :)

Hi Ann, I like the tritone effect here. Simple, but effective in it's composition, but much more elaborate in the patterns refracting through the ice. Very spectacular shot., and the combination between the warm tones and coooler ones works very well.

I enjoyed reading your comment to Michael Kanemoto's panos... Completely different assessment...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

This is a very intirguing photo. I am glad you added some explanation. I almost ask you in your penguin photo if you could share a uncropped version so we could see it in perspective. Now I understand better what you were filming. The colors created by the lighting is most unusual. A very good photo. Del.

Interesting and funky! We don't get ice here, so I have to live vicariously through all you frozen people... :-)

Love your waterfall shots too. Going to try to get there some day to shoot it myself, too. :-)

Wow Ann! I haven't visited you in a while! Great tiger stripes on these icicles! I love how they take the colors of the surrounding light, and how the composition is divided in light and dark, with the icicles in the transition zone. There is a ghostly impression I get, like the frozen handshake - brrrr! of many cold fingers! Great colors and graphic quality! Ina

Thank you for your kind words and nice compliment Gustavo. It was freezing so I just raced out with the camera whenI saw the ice and I just snapped off a few quick one hand held on automatic cause I didn't have any gloves on. We do get some beautiful sunsets here so I watch out for them but I only have a very short time to snap photos in such warm light cause it goes away really fast.

Thanks for dropping by and for your comment.

Cheers - Ann :)

Thanks Ade for your comment. Dinosaur teeth huh? How long since you last ate something mate? I knew all that shooting Raw would affect you if you weren't careful(hehe).

Actually the black is a green grass field on the other side of the fence but this is just how the shot came out. All I did really was bump the contrast a tad to sharpen and brighten it up some. I pretty much just lined up the top of the fence with the horizon to give some separation from sky and grass and this is the effect I got because of the lighting. I kinda liked it so saved it from the cutting room floor where many hundreds of my photos can be found (haha)

Thanks for dropping by.

Cheers - Ann :)

looks like a set of dinosaur teeth to me. really striking how they have formed in that orderly way - just like teeth really.

also the divide between sunset and black gives it a reall strong feel - imageine a sunset background to the icicles - would not work as well as this did

super
