excellent suggestions, David..there was something i couldn't quite nail on this one and just by scrolling with your ideas in mind i think you've nailed it..make it totally flat and graphic..great, i'll try it tomorrow and resubmit! kat~

Hi, David..i was loathe to crop because i'm so in love with those dark jewel colors and shading transitions..i couldn't bear it!

I'm still getting used to the F100. It has more electronic gizmos than a technology museum. i'm sure i'll learn all the cryptic symbols and the complex choreography of buttons and dials one uses to perform even simple functions like reroll the film or set the aperture. If you have the kind of mind that can use a Casio watch for more than just tell time (i don't), you'll probably love the F100. It's also a total battery hog (you have to learn to use the off-switch between shots) and not too reliable about letting you know when you're getting low. Instead, it gets cranky and sends error messages and refuses to drop the mirror or release the shutter. My first reaction when this happened in the field was abject terror but then i thought..hmm..maybe the batteries are low and bingo, she was purring again..Or else it will show a full power level one shot and the next you're empty. BUT, it's a very substantial camera, feels great in the hand, has a wonderful AF system and i'm getting very attached to it. (Now, if i could just remember how many times i have to push buttons A and B just to open the camera back ))..thanks..kat~

i flipped it because glasses shot in overhead racks at bars are pretty cliche. i liked the composition both ways. Thanks, Stefan..kat~

yikes, it occurs to me that i should have looked at your portfolio before assuming you didn't know how to enhance the contrast on your spider shot..wow do i feel like a stupida! This image is utterly glorious as is the rest of your portfolio..i could learn a lot by looking over your shoulder and that's a fact. Please forgive me but the spider image popped up on my screen as needing comments and my first reaction was, great image but needs light. i still think that your flat contrast is less flattering to the image but i now understand what you were expressing and that you made a personal choice in your presenatation.

This image brings to mind a city with lights scattered about in the dark sky. Beautiful color and macro work. i'd like these images better without frames but once again, a personal choice. regards: kat~

Hi, James..i was attracted to this thumbnail because i am such a sucker for nature shots and this one looked interesting and it is. It's a wonderful composition with excellent control of depth of field. i love the lush tender greenery and especially and most of all those little white flowers on the left that are so ethereal. The water droplets here and there give such a fresh feeling.

I am a bit suprised that you conscientiously framed this image with any number of little edges but failed to lift the magic of your shot out of the digital murk by heightening contrast. i hope you don't mind that i copied this and fooled with curves and levels to really show off your good work. Your exposure was excellent so there was lots of information to play with. Clicking on auto levels didn't do it so i toggled back and forth between levels and curves to bring up the light. At one point i selected and feathered the right side in order to balance the left side and to keep from losing the soft whiteness of your flowers. i hope you don't mind. kat~

you disappoint me, Kostas!!! )) i thought you'd recommend flipping this one 180 degrees and then i could say, huh, right again, Kostas, that's just the way i shot it! Anyway, since the glasses were all lined up in their little overhead rack i couldn't move them so i played with DOF instead. Oh yeah, and so glad you remembered my comment on your wild car image so long ago. THAT really made me feel great! kat~

i hope i didn't insult you by explaining the PS tools but not everyone is PS savvy so i couldn't be sure. You don't really have to have an eye, just hit one of those auto tools and see if you like the result. If you think it's an improvement, it probably is. Remember that the digital b&w is just a filter. It's not a true b&w. Therefore, there are color casts that can affect your contrast to a great extent. Your image may have looked just fine in color but a b&w conversion can suddenly look flat. Look at your original here. it's a mess of midtones with very little range..there are no white whites or black blacks. Auto contrast rectified the situation. It's not always that easy. Sometimes you REALLY have to work at it, but this image was quite well exposed so it was really an easy fix. Good luck..kat~

hi, Ms. K! I'm fine..visiting your pics was a pleasure..a breath of fresh exhaust from your road trip..*wink*..i loved your shots..you're doing some super color work, IMO.

i drove 20 kilometers out of my way to get my camera and race back to get this shot before it began raining, right? Then i upload it and you know what people asked me? If i PS'd the red! haha..so glad you liked it..kat~

Thanks, Olga..the reason i don't crop this is because i don't take off just on one side in order to maintain the original proportions. Since i would be cropping left and either top or bottom, i would lose area that i don't want to lose. Besides that, i have lived with this image for several months since shooting it and have come to like it as is. Thanks so much for your comment..kat~

Hi, Lucas...since you asked, i took the liberty of copying your photo to my computer. i used Photoshop's "auto contrast" tool (Image>Adjustments>Auto Contrast)
Here is the result. You can then tweak your contrast using curves to get the balance just where you want it (Image>Adjustments>Curves). i didn't do that because i wanted you to see how simple it was to animate the scene using only one easy tool. Even if you don't have Photoshop, i would think that any photo editor worth the CD it's recorded on must have an auto contrast tool. Good luck and thanks for asking..kat~

thanks, Lucas..yeah, it's weird sometimes how much a title can make or break an image. i've observed that phenomenon myself. I don't want a title to lead a viewer but sometimes i can't resist! kat~

i love this shot..her bizarre skull and crossbones earring and butterfly in her hair, her extravagant makeup and hair. i think you did a wonderful job and i love that her eyes are dark, giving no clues away..her mouth and jaw strong..i bought her CD once but just couldn't understand it and gave it away. i'm sorry now. (i see you're using the Delta3200 film here. i bought that film on your recommendation and had no idea where to should use it--my next concert, huh?) kat~

ahh, Carlheinz, seems you got LOMO fever...i love these cameras. i have a Holga and it's a definate challenge..i heard the LOMO lens was actually not "awful" enough but i have always loved the thick satiny look of LOMO shots, this one included. Love the tufts of grass growing our of the concrete and the desolate nothingness of the area. kat~

how interesting, Carlheinz..this was just a shot of twelve images and every one was beautiful. Very mysterious blurs and textures and gorgeous grain. i can't say enough about this film. i was blown away! thanks for the comment..kat~

what a mess, in a good way! So much to see and smell and taste, yet i can't because it's just a photograph, caramba! i love the little old man trying to get the message across to the woman who's straining to hear get it right on the other side of the counter. Very film-like grain and tones..beautiful digital work..kat~

super b&w from your digital...this is a wonderful landscape, full of mood, intriguing elements and mystery. Your post processing is excellent. i really like the ominous shadows in the tree stand on the right and the sculptural quality of the dead trees on the hill. You should have 50 comments by now...7++ kat~

a good shot, especially on the street level because it does show different stratas of life and those who live it and that's always a good thing in a street shot. You might want to tweak your contrast a bit on Photoshop. kat~

thanks, Kevin! i started shooting with film very recently and i'm trying out every kind of film i can get my hands on here. It's a whole new world for me. This whole roll of slide film scanned beautifully and responded to the slightest PS tweaks like magic. Maybe it was beginners' luck??? Thanks again..kat~
