About It's getting chilly at night as autumn moves inexorably towards winter. This nominally homeless man has made a home among the reeds on the flood plain. This morning he lit a fire to warm himself. The guys who cut down the reeds every year scrupulously avoid the ones all round his makeshift tent. Live and let live...

It was nice to get a comment from you, DG. It took me to your portfolio which I notice has grown enormously since I last looked. Lots of good stuff. I'll be back when I have more time to browse and leave a comment or two...

My default compression is 10x which often produces files that are too large for Usefilm. In this case I increase the compression one step at a time until the file becomes less than 360k (often it will go to 300k, but not less). This one is compressed no more than about 18 times... Maybe what you are seeing is grain, and maybe the result of a LOT of dodge and burn. Thanks for the comment... Much appreciated.

Sorry Roger,
in my screen is very clear the strong jpeg compression of this image. You loose most of the details.
How much did you compressed it?

Bye

I wouldn't fancy living through the winter in that, Roger!!
Best regards, Chris

You are right, Matej, more than you would expect from 400 ISO but I made a mistake, this was actually 800 ISO. So about what you would expect. This is only about half of the negative, too...

The graininess is more than I would expect. Is this a major crop of the original?

One always thinks of Japan as a wealty nation and nothing of the kind you see here. But it is the same old song everywhere. Good document. There is minor grain if I see that correctly.
