About I was very attracted to the colours and atmosphere of this shop, but I can't help feeling I let a much better picture get away from me. I would like suggestions for what to try on my next visit.

B. Gibson. Foul? I didn't think there was any foul. How do you read that into my reply? I was sympathising with the difficult lighting in that shot you took, not criticising it. And I intended to sound grateful. Anyway, to make it clear beyond any possibility of doubt, I am most grateful, and thought it was a good idea, well illustrated. Phew!

I guess all I was trying to suggest was that despite my photo's technical deficiencies, it is very much like how the light was blasting into the shop which was by comparison very dark. Therefore for me at least and probably no one else it captured that place sharply. No foul intended. regards, Bill

Well B., that's certainly something I hadn't thought of. I find it a bit difficult to cope with high contrast scenes, although I often find myself taking them. Your own shot suffers a bit from high contrast, although that Russian lens is performing well for you! I'll bear this in mind for when I next visit Kawagoe City. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just a suggestion example....I have been haunting antique stores over the past 5 or 6 weekends as I take photos of small towns within a day's drive of my home....I have found that sometimes shooting back against the light entering the store offers a different sense of being inside the store...course, I could be dead wrong. I always enjoy looking at your work from the other side of the world.

Well, Rob, Teunis came up with something I hadn't thought of. I am learning so much from so many people that it's quite natural for me to turn to the Usefilm community for help when I feel particularly disappointed with my photograph of what I feel was a promising scene. That lovely chocolatey dark shop interior and those coloured lampshades were really very attractive...

Tiffany is in demand in Japan as well I see. Roger, do you honestly believe that other humble photographers are able to suggest to you where to improve and what to photograph on your next trip?
BTW great phot. Have a nice Easter. Rob.

Hi Roger, well I am strugling with this one to be honest. I can't see the way forward here. The 'obvious' thing is to avoid blowing out the white of the statue and removing the wires. I think the main interest might be the light shades, but you have to decide what you want to focus on and try and make sure the rest of the image does not distract from that.

Here it is cropped as Teunis suggested. Much better.

Thanks, Teunis. I didn't think of that but you're right, it makes quite a difference getting rid of that green mat!
