What a wonderful composition. I love that shadow, of course, and also how the raised up row of bricks comes zooming dowm along the top of the arch. Impressively good.

He's known for his hearts (clue), bathrobes - used as a self-portrait of sorts, and tools. Jim Dine :-) I love his faboulous tool drawings though, not the hearts, which are hugely popularized in posters.

Hi Ant, I love that new image, and I'll attempt tomorrow, just because all my previous entries might appear later on. Did you figure out my Jeopardy question: who is the artist I'm referring to in my other post with the large bricks? Who is ___?

Thanks Ozjan :) It was a challenging crop, in order not to cut the arch too much, and not to cut the shadow. Also, if I backed away, the detail would be lost.

I like how you managed to position the window to the left while leaving a larger space to present fabulous details of the blocks utilizing light and shade. Brilliant work once again Ina. Cheers.

Hi Ant, I've tried to comment on your new photo, but my comments do not register, so I'll try tomorrow. I hope they won't appear 3 or 4 times, and make me look like an idiot.

Bach, Handel and especially Gluck (Orfeo and Euridice), baroque opera is my fav in classical music - the castrati! As for architecture, I suppose Byzantine for its connection to the part of Europe where I come from, and Renaissance. I know exactly what you're saying about Gothic, though.

I'm a student of Architecture, especially of the Gothic Period. It is interesting to me that you find Gothic "cold". On the contrary, I find the Gothic nearer to my soul in its language than any other architectural style. Intellectually, I dig the Classical Period, with its emphasis on math and perfection in "form". However, Gothic takes us much closer to natural things. What style appeals to you most? Renaissance? The odd thing is that in music I'm CRAZY about the Baroque Period - Bach and Handel in particular - a musical language dictated in major ways by intellect rather than "human", "natural" emotions. Paradoxically, I would counter this right away by saying that no composer has touched my emotions more than Bach - his B Minor Mass and his Well-Tempered Clavier for example! Isn't art fascinating?

Thanks for your wonderful comment, Ant :) I find gargoyles rather threatening... and not just to evil spirits. You're right about the Welsh origin! As for the rest... very impressive! You're not quoting from a book, are you? There will be a test at the end of the class :) I did cut the arch in order to avoid the roof shadow and to bring closer the detail, which otherwise would have been lost. There is also the blue vs. red which in my mind is symbolic. Details, details.

Why Ina - some more Gothick from you! And from a Welsh Congregation too? Gorgeous textures, detail, colour. I can see why you lopped off the apex of the arch in favour of the shadow the dripstone and corbel mouldings cast in late afternoon light. Very lovely work Ina, typical of you if I may say so. (Should anyone be wondering, in Gothic architecture, corbels like this one are sometimes made to look fearsome to ward off evil spirits, like the more widely-known and used "gargoyles" - equally grotesque representations which also act as waterspouts on Gothic structures. Hermione Grainger is my heroine, so what? :-)
