Good work Angelo! Food shots are some of the hardest to do in my opinion, and this is a really good one. The purple and green really pop and work well with the composition, and the depth of field is perfect. Bravo!

I am SOOOOO hungry and this is why! What a beautiful color on that onion you have captured and the cilantro is splendid - I could see this in Bon Apetite! Well done on this Angelo. Gorgeous and satisfying. And that DOF - perfect! :)

Assuming that the quality of a photo can be measured by the immediate rational, physical and emotional response it generates from the viewer, this one scores rather highly, because every time I look at it, I feel like going to the kitchen and getting myself something to eat :-)

Mark,
It's "Ouro Preto" (lovely city, did you like the Aleijadinho sculpure?).
The Cariocas v. Paulistas is one of the enduring rivalries in Brasil. Cariocas are supposed to be corrupt, decadent and more interested in partying and enjoying life (so say the Paulistas who resent it being the seat of government for so long). Paulistas are supposed to be stressed out and boring hard workers in a drab and rainy city with little or no natural beauty (so say the Cariocas who envy the economic success of their neighbouring state and resent the decadence of their city since the Federal govnermnet moved to Brasília in the sixties).
The rivalry extends to everything: who has the best Carnival, Samba schools, musicians, and especially football clubs!
Being a Capixaba (from Espírito Santo), I try to stay out of that fight for second place, for surely ES is the best state in the federation :)

Dear Angelo, Love the very shallow DOF here. The dish looks great - but almost all Brazilian food looks (and tastes) great. So I finally got out my atlas to find this place of yours. So now I see. Actually been quite close to it last time we were there as we stopped in Belo Horizonte / Oro Preto (did I spell that right ?). So what city are you from, Vitoria? So what's your take on Rio? (I had a friend in Sao Paulo and I gather they, in general, are not crazy about it at all) Tell me all Senor, Mark

Thanks Angelo. Yes I'll tell you how to get to Peling, the place from where I took this shot. To get to peling first you have to arrive at the city of SILIGURI , which is located in the northern part of the state of WEST BENGAL in India. You can reach Baghdogra Airport - 30kms from SILIGURI by air or New JALPAIGURI TRAIN STATION by train. From Siliguri you can hire a car straight to Peling or Pemayangtse, both are same places. It takes about 4.5 hours rrom SILIGURI. In Peling there are lots of hotels at reasonable rates. This shot was taken from the Norbugang Hotel (there is the Norbugang Resort also), but the view from the Norbugang hotel is much better. When yoh reach peling stay in hotel located in the UPPER PELING region. This norbugang hotel is in the upper peling region. Wake up atleast around 3.30 in the morning to see the sunrise. BEst time to go to this place will be from February to April. Try in March or April. Hope this will give you a fair idea.

Alastair,
My mum and my wife cooked this one together. They actually cooked two of them: one traditional, with all the fish, shellfish and molluscs, and another vegetarian version, with soya substitute, which was also fantastic (for me the main thing is the heart of palm, or "palmito" which I just love).
If you ever go to Brasil and visit Espírito Santo (South East, between Rio and Bahia) there are two dishes you MUST try: "torta capixaba" (this one) and "moqueca capixaba" (fish medallions cooked in a clay pan with lots of onions, coriander and other condiments).
BTW, "capixaba" is the name given to things that come from my home state of ES (just like "carioca" is from Rio)

Stop it - you're making me hungry! This looks delicious... is it one you cooked yourself? I love seafood and what you described sounds wonderful...
I like the shallow DOF you've used again here - if anything its even shallower than last time! Perfect focus on the coriander (love that too) and the contrasts of red/white of the onion and the green of the coriander work very well together.
Well taken Ahgelo,
Alastair
