Hi Tom,

well, the secret is 800 ISO, wide angle, lowest aperture value, leaning the D70 on the stomach and don't breathe! =)

it works quite good. I've done most of my IR pictures with a tripod to get really high aperture values. but it's kind of bothering to take the tripod with you all the time =)

best wishes,
Thilo

thilo, dig the series very much. however, the part that makes my mind spin is: how on earth did you frame & focus handheld with an R-72 in place??? i must know your secret ;^)

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique I was happy to see you on the front page so I came to congratulate you and wanted to start the exciting story at the beginning so here I am...First of all congratulations for the BIP! Your story is intriguing, I'm anxious to see what happens next, does he reach the gate? I love the dark deep blues and the colors from the IR filter, moody and beautiful, the angle is interesting, wonder if that's what a snake's view is like? A beautiful composition and story Thilo...I saw what Edward said and I have to agree, I'm so new to photography, that I find myself a little intimidated by your photography as well....:):)

Hi Abel,

thanks a lot for the kind feedback.

It's not that much PS as it may seem. the channel switch is most of the trick.

Thilo,

To be very frank, I am never bothered by an honest and well presented comment, yours or anyone else's!

I've been really busy with work and family commitments, hence the delay in commenting.

Fire away! :)

Hi Angelo,

no, it was just half a second ;-) to be honest.

The shot was done holding the cam at my stomach. You get some stops out of this technique. but you have to do some more pictures ;-)

thx for browsing by. I feared that my last comment bothered you.

best wishes,
Thilo

Come on and stop pulling my leg, Thilo! 1 second hand-held??? You found your super-steady cam-holding superpowers again??? Come on, you must have been leaning against a wall or post or something... tell me... :))

No, really, this is incredible work at 1s handheld, I am very surprised by the sharpness of it all.

Nice placement for the gate, and the angled composition works nicely for a good bit of tension.

Well deserved award.

Conrats on your whole page! You are a real master of photography! It's hard for me to comment on your works because they are technically and visually perfect plus there is always a deep background. So I find it hard to put in words all the thoughts and feelings that evolved in me watching your photos. I can only thank you for the pleasure!
Best regards, Edward

Great Carpenter movie....who can forget Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken....this shot appeals to me cause it gives another side of NYC....it could be taken from the entrance to Riker's Island, or somewhere in the projects and this gives it a claustrophobic feeling.....the skyscrapers in the background are no longer shiny and lit up like christmas trees but instead dark and threatening.....the tilted angle from below is from the perspective of the outsiders....those who seldom move up and down Park Avenue and those who never have their evening meals at the Plaza. I like it a lot

Seems like you're starting a good series here. I like so much the angle on this one, the urbanity - and the colors are amazing. I'm looking forward to the next one. Very fine for this project - congrats.

Hi Thilo, bloody powerful shot. Very forbidding and grim. The angle / tilt is the right choice here (as far as I'm conserned), and the low saturation and brightness emphasise the ominous atmosphere even more. Very cool shot, and a very professional rework and presentation.

Cheers,

Hugo

with all aspects, effect, lighting, tones, angle it really creats a mood that you can easyly want to escape...or depending on your mood just stay and watch this view for a long time :) very well done Thilo.

Hi Thilo,

I think the angle chosen for your presentation of this one has put it over the edge to receive the BIP. Very effective choice!
Congrats.
