About The river's Patron Saint.

A statue has been erected in his honour, in the vicinity of the river's spring. Animals congregate around it. In fact, it was by His statue that I took the Calango photo (http://www.usefilm.com/image/797178.html)

In this photo I just want to show you this little sanctuary and its setting.

A Cokin gray grad was used to control the sky a bit. I wanted the simplicity of monochrome, and found this warm toning in Duotone was very pleasant. I also experimented with some fakey IR effect, which are very dramatic, artistic and pleasing but detract somewhat from the subject.

In hindsight, I should have used a smaller lens aperture. Gotta learn to slow down. Thankfully it was not too much of a disaster...

+++

Photoshop: minor levels and curves, some saturation/hue work, then a conversion to b&w using channel mixer. Duotone toning.

A poem by Alaria Zilfo (http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/87774.html):

~The River's Patron Saint~

In the vicinity of the serene river's spring,
A sanctuary of the heart in a meadow of gold,
Remote, there he continues to stand, Saint Patron,
Looking into the vast and beyond those Titans,
His finger pointed towards a dark tumult above,
Swift, wrathful and transforming...
Such indecisive beauty fills me with awe...

Hi Angelo I really like this photo and the way you presented it using photoshop tools . The tone is very good and your composition I like very much . Well done ,,, Thank you for your kind words on my tree image . I am not that good at photoshop yet as I am just in the prossess of changing from conventional darkroom to digital so I have a lot to learn. I scanned that image from 1 of my 4x5 negs with a Epson 4870 scanner at 600 resolution and played with it in photo shop some Cheers and thanks for sharing Glenn

I like the mood of this picture Angelo. I like as well the high contrast in it, putting the statue a little to the left was a good thing to do, also converting it to B&W adds more flavor,
very well done, Regards,

Mark,

This is cerrado eco-system --- the same as in Brasília, hence the similarity. It is "nearby" in Brasil terms: a couple of days solid driving :)

Thank you for the comment.

Dear Angelo, this one's really nice. I love the contrast and the wonderful clouds / sky. It makes me think of the unique sky of Brasilia - is this place somewhat close to there? (I have to look in my atlas. I'll go get it) Take Care, Mark

Very nice - this reminds me of a scene from the American southwest - the tonality is very well portrayed with detail on both the clouds and forground grasses no doubt because of the graduated filter - I also like the small detail on the sides of the satue - well done - K

Thank you for the wonderful poem, Alaria. I have taken the liberty to add it to the "about" section of the photo.

I am very happy and touched by the fact that this image has moved you to write such a poem.

Thank you for the compliment, Paolo. San Francesco is very loved all over the world. The river is named in his honour and is the most important in Brasil.

Antonio,

There is only one Saint Francis of Assisi, although the name is spelled in different ways acoording to language. In Portuguese, it is São Francisco de Assis. The river in Brasil is named after him. Hence the statue and sanctuary.

I suppose it is S. Francesco from Italy and in the title I read before click on the image to enlarge it I thought it was some of my italian friend jocking with title of a photo from Umbria, the region where there is the dedicated church

Lovely shot Angelo. The clouds have definitely benefitted from the grey grad! Nice composition and good conversion to B&W although I would personally have darkened the sky further by reducing the blue (but thats just my preference!)

Well done Angelo...
