About I like the various dimensions of this image. A window to the past showing "Independence Hall" in Philadelphia.. modern meets old...plus the flag adds a nice touch. In addition, I like seeing the two levels/floors of the building with the window in view. Also, I like the silhouettes and reflections. When I was taking the photo.. I was more concerned in getting the view outside the window to be sharp.. almost as if the window was not there.

PS Work: minimal.. convert to b&w, adjust brightness.

I think the silhouetted inside of the building adds a very nice sense of depth and scale, Paul.

The buildings are leaning a bit, but it's almost unnoticeable.

Tom me the most attractive things in this photo are the human silhouettes, and I wish there were some more, especially walking around downstairs.

YES! Great shot, in all aspects. The diagonals leeading to a vanishing po0int off screen work well, and place the primary field of view on the upper floor, guiding the eye towards the skyline in the distance. NOT cropping the lower section is a very good choice, though, as it does add to the composition, balancing it beautifully. The combination between backlighting, rendering the figures and objects in the foreground to silhouettes, the translucency of the flag and the very nice contrast in the background work well together too. Quite an achivement with minimal PS work. Impressive exposure. I really like this one. A lot.

Cheers,

Hugo

..a very very intersting vision..i like the life "double" perspective and the deep blacks of the silouhettes. Maybe a little bit oblique on orizons (see the windows line on up part of image)
compliments,

I seem to be drawn to your black and whites for some reason! I like the diagonal line that divides here and the details from the two different stories. And of course your pov is rather cool! Congrats on the award.

One of the best shots I've seen for the current project. So many interesting details and a wonderful composition with the two open sided levels but what I love most is the crystal clear view you've brought in from the outside to complement your many interesting silhouettes. Excellent Paul.
ps You might need to rotate it CC just a little.

Really well composed, and I think the tonal range is excellent, especially given the perspective. The light reflecting from the floor and in the sky balanced this with the nice graytones in the buildings and your silhoetted elements. The legs on the chairs are such a nice feature -- love the little lines they create. (Too much time on my hands...geesh):) Congrats on the award!

Even though this shot is very messy, it appeals to me in many ways.. First of all the shadows and highlights are very powerful, maybe even a bit dramatic. Then there are all the people in the midst of doing something, which makes this a great still frame showing action in many different ways. Thirdly, the geometry of the shot is very complex, giving the eye a good merry-go-round ride, but yet returning the eye into some kind of a "big picture" of the whole scene. Perfect in so many ways.. Nice! Thankyou for your comment on "Luotsi".
Best regards,
Niclas

Great shot Paul, congratulations...deserved for sure. This is an image to take time studying, there are so many elements to it. I concur with everything you mentioned in 'about' and I particularly like in addition, the many table and chair legs with reflectins on the second floor. Another quite interesting thing is the play between the high contrast in the lower half, and the soft contrast seen through the expansive upper windows. Really a great image and worthy of 'photo of day' IMO.

Hi Paul,

I love that kind of shadow/high contrast composings. The high amout of black parts attract my eyes ;-)

first I thought of a reflection shot, then I saw that these are two different floors. good detail here, and the reflection on the ground floor is nice, too.

good shot!

best wishes,
Thilo

Paul I love the silhouettes, the reflections in the floor, and the light is awesome, of course pulling it all together. This image has a sophisticated look to it that I really like, there's so much to see, yet it's not too busy, because I think you composed it very well..Of course I also think that b&w is the only way to go on this one, and I like that we can view a bit of the city as well...this one deserves an award, not only are they wonderful silhouettes but this took some ingenuity to pull it off in one frame...very very well done, and an interesting image...:):)Linda

This one works at, er, many levels if you'll forgive the expression. I really like it. Lot of good contrasts and technically very assured. Just one small wish: I'd like to have glimpsed the stars in the stars and stripes... they're completely gone on my screen.

Thanks Mark... actually I did not think of cropping the image that way. It is not a bad idea... the reason I think I did not look at cropping that part was because I wanted to keep Independence Hall in the center of the image.

Mark Wlaz   {K:4564} 7/14/2005
Paul,
Great image ... from my hometown. Its terrific the way your image makes the 2nd floor appear as if it is suspended in air by leveraging the open space and showing the level below, and by bringing the outside in to your image with the emphasis on the large glass wall.
I wonder if you played around with the idea of cropping the image, by eliminating about an inch or so on the right. It would eliniate from view the large support column, which might further enhance the image of the floating 2nd floor.
Congrtas on a beautiful image.
Best regards,
Mark level
