Thanks Ina,
A matching framed image of this one is sitting right next to the framed image of the "Harvests and Hayrides Remembered" image. They are off to my left about 8 feet away.:)
I have been back to some of the areas where I took these and these two are gone now :( Replaced with newer old cars :)
The man whose property these cars are on sold my dad the lot for us to build our cottage in 1962.
He still works his farm, just like he did in the sixties.

This is very cool, Andre! What a treasure! Have you gone back to that farmer's field?
I've looked at your "At the Cottage" portfolio, great images, very nice memories. Ina

Thanks Toni,
I'm finding quite a few people seem to feel the same way about these old images.

Thanks Fadel,
The original print for this one is in straight B&W and only about 5"x6" Hardly any cropping, so the print is quite strong. One of my favourites.

Aaron,
You know what is interesting though? As much as we complain about cars today, they really do last longer now. This photo was taken in 1971 I believe. The plates on the car indicate it had been sitting there on blocks with no wheels for two years. The four headlights on the truck tells me that it can only be a 1958 model at the earliest. It is rusted right through in places and only eleven years old at the most when put to pasture. Probably tons of mileage on it though, being a rural school bus. Still, I hope your new one lasts longer than that.

Thanks Thilo,

I haven't been back to that exact spot for years. In a couple of weeks I will be in that area so I think I'll take my camera and see if there are any new additions to the graveyard.

hi andre,

yeah, this one rocks and is definitely a subject to die for. I like the bold look, the near quadratic format and the knots on the window here. great catch and toning.

best wishes,

thilo

Thank you Maria.

I usually try to obtain an element of sadness in my old automobile photos. I hope this shows through.

Thanks for the comment Martin. I think the sepia tones go well with this image.

Stephanie,
Damn that licence plate :) I fretted over what to do with it. I tried intentionally blurring the numbers, but that looked hokey. Then I tried changing the numbers and rubbing out the writing. That looked bad. Then I thought, it's over 30 years old so maybe there is no issue with the identity of the plate. So what do I do? Submit the photo with all the glare on the plate to distract everyone.
The original print is in nice rich dark traditional B&W tones. But I have been staring at it like that for years. Lately, I have been changing a lot of my old stuff to sepia. It seems to work out well.
Thanks for the comment.

I love the feeling you can get from an old vehicle. This is a lovely shot, the sepia tone is not as severe as black and white and so delivers a softer sense of ageing in this image. I'm sure B&W would also be impressive.
My only criticism - and it's not a big one - is the number plate. There's a lot of light reflecting off it, I might have tried to dull it slightly. Otherwise beautiful.
