About Took this photo at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. Yeah.. I know it is nothing fancy. It was taken at sunset and I just like the way the setting sun was highlighting the statue. I wanted more than "just" a tourist photo of the statue and thought this angle and perspective was effective. Not an award winning photo :) but I like the mood of the image.

P.S. I did not go with a b&w version due to the colors from the sunset but I think the image looks good in b&w as well.

Good work with some nice details from this statue. I like your use of selective focus and shallow DOF, it adds depth and perspective to the image, in my opinion.

Difficult light for you, with the bright sky behind the dark statue, but you did a decent job there and got the detail where it matters.

Paul, a good image with the right decision to stay with the color to show the golden light. I took a similar one a few years back

I like the low angle of the sun and the highlights on the face.

thanks Jeff.. well, have to admit that the first time I saw the Wall it was emotional.. it still has an impact, especially when there are vets there or people leaving flowers etc..

paul, i always liked this statue. very strong emotional response. you have isolated it very well. but, as you said above, the kicker is the color. love the way the low sunlight nrings out the bronze and it's subtle nuances. i also dig the frame you chose. gives it that letterbox "private ryan" feel to it. i shot some statues at the fdr memorial that day also but i'm not entirely sure if they are postable. need to work on the color as they came out very green. anyhow, excellent work!

take care,
tom

Nice lighting, indeed! You made the faces "alive" by choosing this angle, with the trees behind. Original and very good work, Paul!

hi paul,

you definitely suceeded in NOT doing a tourist photo ;-)

the glow, the DOF and the framing do a nice job to enhance the picture. I think about a light frame on the left... BW would for sure be an option...

best wishes,

thilo

nice photo. I like the angle you chose on the shot, it adds to the drama, even though they are completely still. I also am a fan of that beautiful golden glow from the sunset. good job.

Am glad you did not convert it in B&W, the sunset has a nice effect, in fact it?s not a regular tourist shot, love the close and the excellent shallow dof. Saeed

I think it was a good choice to keep the colours, the setting sun does add to the lovely burnished look and mood to the statue

I enjoy portraits of statues. It focuses our attention on what was interesting from the photographer's viewpoint, and tells a story. It's an artist's view of another artist's view so to speak. This is just grand. Antonia

Don't be so modest! This is fine. The sunset colours touching the RH soldier's cheekbone and temple are a great accent, the depth of focus and "flavour" of the out-of-focus areas are good, and the composition is hard to beat. Of course I LOVE photos of statues--taking them AND watching other people's. I particularly like the very tactile rendering of the bronze in this one.

Nice shot Paul! I like the glow from the sunlight!
Must be an emotion place to visit! They had a 1/4 size traveling "WALL" that I visited close to Me and that was incredible! I would like to see the memorial sometime. Well done Paul! Take care! My best.....................John
