About This one's for you, Becky... a little baby duck!
From a summer shoot, while I harassed baby animals, mainly ducks and geese, and I saw something that I had never seen before. I was setting up for a shoot of some baby turtles on a log when I must have snapped a branch and this little baby duck shot out of the underbrush and started running along the top of the lilypads. He honestly never touched the water!
Anyways, I liked it, and since it was one of the few that actually turned out from my "baby animal" series, I thought I would post it.
Comments are appreciated.

Excellent shot, Kim. A lovely image with beautiful composition and placement. The duckling is big enough to be seen with some details, yet small enough in the frame to get the exact feeling of it being "lost".

Very good selective focus, also. I hope the poor little thing found its family after you so cruelly scared it... ;)

Awww - what an adorable photo! :) Poor little guy look so alone on that great big expanse of lily pads (certainly to him!) I love his stance, too - uncertain but brave, looking out to the great big world that awaits him, yet ready to run back to mama at any moment! Beautifully shot with a perfect DOF to emphasize the little guy's smallness!

Hi Kim, great shot. It captured my attention because the excellent use of DOF creates the impression of a vast space, something like the "Big (duck) Void". This vast space again emphasizes the little duck, so small in this vast monotone area, appearing to be lost. So next to the visually captivating components there is an emotional one, a story that challenges our empathy. Thus a very intriguing picture. Well done! Best regards Jorg

Kim, this is so fun! Isn't it a cool kind of serendipity when you have your camera in hand and something special happens?

The way the dof fades into the bg, the little duckling surrounded by the repetitive patterns of lily pads, the cool green color, all of it adds up to a neat image.

The framing you added around the border works well here, probably because of the fairly uniform bg.

Cool.
