About Japanese Macaques (snow monkeys), Shiga Kogen, Honshu, Japan. Altaf and I were chatting, and he asked me which image was my best selling wildlife image. I think it's this one. It's been published probably a few hundred times now, in books, calendars, ads, magazines, posters, and notecards.

It's one of those perpetually popular images, but more importantly an insight into the character and behavious of these little comedians.

Great expressions. I like the use of the wide angle quite a bit. The snowy reflection in the water is a nice touch. Congratulations on your success with this image.

amazing, i think the pose of the monkey on the far left is the best. it looks likes somewhat exhausted

António Vieira   {K:122} 11/13/2001
Yes, this one is famous.

I like it a lot.

Just a curiosity: Macaques comes certainly from the portuguese word: Macacos.
There are several japanese words that cames from the portuguese words (like Arigato). But anyway this has nothing to do with photography...

Heloo Mr Kaufman.

This is a great shoot. I like the colours and the composition.
The only thing I do not like is that the one on the far left, looks like my x-wife.............

Incredible capture. They look like wise old men. I've always wanted to see snow monkeys in the wild. What a photo!

It's no wonder that this pic. has been published so often. Outstanding in absolutely every respect. I've been to Japan many times - unfortunately only Tokyo and Kobe - and always wished I could get to see the snow monkeys. But seeing a picture of this type of quality is almost as good as witnessing the scene first hand. Amazing!

Chris Whaley   {K:3847} 9/25/2001
Woho!...that is too cool....they look like wore out mountain climbers just reaching the top....i'll ask the usual question...how did you get so close?
