The teacher of our photography course asked us to make some photos of Eindhoven, the city where the course is located. They will be used in an exhibition in the local library. I shot some pictures during a trip to the historical open-air museum. The ones that I liked best I will post here tonight. But I can only submit one image to the exhibition... So I would like to know your opinion, which image is the most appealing to you?
I too would vote for this...the thatcher is journalistic in feel, the reeds are classic in matter and composition and tone, this one has more mood imo...I do think Hugo has a point some of your work on the sheep-herder expedition resonates much more than any of these thre...
Hi Hermen, It took some time before I could decide which one to put up.... I think I'd go for this one, but in all fairness, I have to say that none of these three have "the edge". I think that this one lacks a single focussing point (from the viewers perspective, photographically, the focus is very good) In other words, there's too much information and too many things going on to create the needed appeal and tension.
I think the one with the reed leaning against the wall the subject is definately very well captured, but I think the composition needs to be a little wider/more room.
The one with the Thatcher at work would do very well, if it were cropped a little tighter, removing some disturbances of the details in the periferal rooftops.
In all shots, the contrast is a little low, mainly because of the grey weather.
Don't mean to be too critical nor disconstructive. I'm just anwering your question. The shots are very interesting photographically, and do have the appeal, but I think for a exhibition, a shot needs the extra touch to really stand out. In my opinion, that little extra isn't there. I think that of your recent work "the lost sheep" or "tête à tête" would qualify. Comparing those two, I'd go for "the lost sheep".
what I think is that this photos have the context and the ones of your relatives have life. I would prefer seeing those that are full of life (they just lack a litle in context) as they tell me more about the atmosphere of that place. I have one I prefer but I wont be telling you. :)
