Continuing on the tree-series, this is a Banyan Tree (Ficus bengalensis). This belongs to the fig family and is at least a hundred years old. Figs attract all kinds of birdlife (http://www.usefilm.com/image/20543.html)and siesta-seeking travellers in the old days. The prop roots travel down from all branches to root once again, forming amazing thick columns under the mother tree. This way, these trees survive several hundreds of years. "Oh what fun it is to birdwatch & wade...relaxing in the beautiful banyan shade"!!
