I see what you mean Dave. I have been looking at it and trying to be more critical, but I still think that how it looks is how it should be.

The great thing about photography is that it's an art, and therefor, by defination, cannot be judged right or wrong.
My personal opinion is that the shape and form of this image is just not "regular" enough, and the perspective and horizon plane are reducing the effectiveness of the captured light and shadow.
I really like the idea and the three-dimensional effect the lighting on the window has.. and the face just coming into the light. When you intentionally shoot things like this off-level, or with convergence.. might I suggest taking another frame with the shot level and convergence reduced or eliminated? Looking at them side by side may reveal surprising results.
Jmho... not that I would do any better... what do they say about forethought, and afterthought?

Hello Artie
Thanks for your comments. I understand what you are saying but I have to disagree.
First off the intent was not for my brother to remain non descript. It was important that you are aware of him, but details of his appearance are not important. The actual window is right to be crooked as you say. I can not see the point of portraying exactly what was there that day as I saw it? I wanted the feeling of wondering what he is looking at, if he is looking at anything?
thanks Artie.

Greg...if the intent is to have your brother remain non descript...ie a person looking out at an unknown entity out of the window than you have not conveyed that here....this is a under-lit person looking out a window which is very crooked....got to watch the small details like verticals being trued..than out the window the building are distorted; falling over....for you to suggest the viewing is important, not necessarily the view and the person being secondary you would want the camera placement to be much closer to him or use a lens to bring him in...make the viewer of this image feel that he /she is looking out the window with your borthers eyes and the view outside could be blurred and non descript...If the intent is the fact that a person is caught in the act of just enjoying viewing at nothing in particular but just in thought viewing than the person needs to more central to the theme and lighted accordingly...not necessary in full light but an indication of form would work...even a rim light and a touch of light on him...non silouetting...more dimensional...

Hello Gary,
thanks for looking at the picture. The thing about this image is that I did not want my brother to be seen in any detail. I needed the focus to be what ever it is he might be looking at, you cannot see what it is he is looking at, pehaps what he is looking at is not even important?
