I only sell weaned birds too . . . but we both know it's a matter of how much and how often they're interacted with. Good luck!

Hi Doyle,
Thanks for taking the time to jot down some hints. It would have to be from a breeder as the pet stores here (main ones in San Diego) no longer sell birds that are not weaned. Some 'study', they said, showed that it didn't help the bird bond, etc... I know that it DOES for sure!
Maybe I'll give it a try again!
Have a GR8 evening,
Lori :)

Lori:
They are NOT all like that! Some are pure joy! I do, indeed have a lot of experience with them. Black Mask Lovebirds are my favorite. These birds are VERY bright and 90% teenager (10% Don Corleone). They develop their own relationships with people and a different one for each person in their life. You cannot choose them . . . they choose you. Your BEST bet, given your experience, is to hand feed your own. It would then be TOTALLY dependent on you. It would also develop a natural loving relationship. Watch out for pet stores selling "Hand-fed" babes. Some breeders hand feed a lot of birds "assembly-line" which does not lead to bonding. Then they wind up in a cage, devoid of human touch, labeled "hand-fed" where they get sold for more and have pretty much gotten tired of the whole human poking at the cage game. Find a good local breeder. These guys (as you know) can bite!

Doyle I <-----

Adorable photograph, love this one too!
Who couldn't love these little faces? :)

I had an experience with a Fisher Lovevird a couple of years ago. Since my parrot isn't a shoulder bird, I thought I'd get a little guy, the Fisher........bought one as a baby, but he was weaned already. This bird was fun to watch, but he was a total monster. Didn't want anything to do with people, you couldn't even get his attention. But as soon as he heard one of the other birds in the house, he went to their cages. Trying to pry him off their cages wasn't a thrill either. That little critter could BITE! I tried for about 4 months to tame him to no avail. Are they all kind of wild like this? I have seen other people with these birds, perhaps I just got a wild monster!! He went back to the shop. I was saddened because he was such a cutie! And a clown to watch in his cage.

Looks like you have a lot of experience with these guys! Lori :)

Meldi:
Their common name is Lovebirds, because if you put two together they are literally always at each other's side . . . as though they were in love. They are considered hookbills, like parrots, hence the similarities you spotted. By siblings, I mean that they have the same mother / father and they come from individual eggs (one each) from the same brood. Mom will lay from one to seven eggs each round. These little cuties were all laid (as eggs) at the same time. They hatch at the same time too.
The name lovebird ends with the name. They are very smart. They are 90% teenager and 10% criminal. They can break out of cages and have been known to get out, release other birds, and then get back into theirs with a "Who, Me?" look! They decide who they do and don't like and can be fiercely loyal to their chosen buddies. Always fun and definitely the clowns of the bird world.

Lovebirds is their special name/there is some special characteristic?, as I could see they are small parrots, and really beautiful birds. When you say siblings, does it mean that two birds came out of one egg,or I'm wrong.Anyway very nice photo and I suppose there will be more of them.
Kind regards
Meldijana

Thanks Pam:
They're also VERY smart. They can open their own cage and, if allowed, they will open cages for the other birds as well!

Thanks for the comments . . . while the higher angle I tried initially emphasized their small size; I felt the faces conveyed their personality a lot better. Perhaps next time I'll try an even lower angle.

Fantastic is a great descriptor. They're filled with personality. 90% teenager and 10% Don Corleone. They can open cages and will even release other birds after they open their own doors.
