Hi my friend. I Like version two a tad bit better the version one. But I Love the detail in version one...ie Black and white. I think that as busy as SF is color wouldn't do it as much justice. Sepia works but not as well as your fist post.
I see what you mean about the crop or the rotation. I think either shot is an award winning post and something to have hung on a wall! In LARGE LARGE LARGE Frame!

Hey, thanks very much Sam! Great question about the rotation. I considered both that and a more severe left-side crop so that the horizon would intersect the edge of the shot at the same level on both sides. Trouble is . . . I only considered the crop just now as your comment somehow made me think of it as an alternative. One of the strengths of UF I guess. I'm seriously considering a version 2 . . . with a tighter left-side crop which will cut out Marin County, Alcatraz and the bay . . . but mostly low-level buildings . . . Something (roughly) like the attached image . . . Perhaps you could give me your thoughts on the attached idea . . . I might even use color or Sepia.
The trouble with the rotation is it gives the effect that the crop would and which the eye strives to get, i.e., balance in the horizon intersection with the photo border. Like you, my first thought was rotate but when that's done it gives the Transamerica Building an even more distracting tilt.
Anyway . . . Thanks for giving me something to think about!

Doyle, This has a fantastic feel to it. Kind of the 1930's feel.
I Love the fisheye effect. how it brings out the curvature of the earth. Nice tones to it as well.
Question for you though. Did you put any thought into a slight rotation(about 1.25 degrees Clockwise) just a thought...I Love it and right into favorites it went!

¡Da las gracias para el entusiasmo Juan! No es realmente que complicado hacer esta clase del disparo. Era muy alto en un edificio (52 pisos) y disparé esto fuera una ventana. Cambié mi lente de cámara a un ojo del pez con un muy ancho 180 ángulo del grado. . ¡. La parte dura no obtiene propios los pies en el disparo! El lente es 10.5mm. Está como disparar por una mirilla en una puerta. Usted necesita una cámara de SLR aunque. Da las gracias para comentar.

thanks for the explanation..obviously to deep for me :) people take the internet way to seriously but I appreciate the concept. I just want to take photos and not make a social statement so I will keep what ever flag they want to put next to my name... Heck, I hardly even look at the flags (can't remember what flags go with what countries LOL :))

Wow, thanks Paul! Very kind of you.
The flag. There was a forum string and some people seemed to feel that the flag was opening them up for some selective persecution. While I don't necessarily agree . . . the conception was there in his mind. Gayle Hardman wanted to institute a photographic equivalent of Doctors Without Borders - Only for Photographers . . . so any who feel like using the One World, Many Tribes mentality can do so by selecting the flag from the drop down menu in preferences. I'm a 'Part-timer' because I don't want anyone to assume that I have any embarassment calling the USA my home . . . so I swap the flags from time to time . . . but use this to show my support for the concept of without borders for this photography medium. That's it.

Told you there were uses! (Hope that didn't sound to much like the childish 'I told You So' Taunt)! ;) I have seen many like Hugo's and one that really stuck with me was from the 1950's. Life magazine had a steel worker walking a steel beam on a highrise construction - unsecured - and the world almost spun around him . . . a remarkable shot. These shots are often much better taken from roof tops. (Hinting in preparation of explanation to critique). LoL!
No, I would HOPE not to get off too easy! Especially from you! The left side curvature is - in fact - more pronounced. This was shot from inside a room and the 180 degree view made an issue of the window frame . . . and cropping ensued!
I have no doubt you'll be doing these same shots as soon as you decide to.

Hm, think I know what was in your mind here, especially as you recently sent me a link to Hugo's NYC fisheye shot. And I must agree that this is a superb fisheye subject, so once again you convince me!
Now for the picky stuff (you didn't think you were going to get away that easily did you?!): the curvature on the left is more pronounced than on the right, which is maybe just a little disconcerting.
But this is an excellent shot from a wonderful location, showing a mastery of equipment that I can only aspire to.

Again I am impressed...looks like the Top of the World to me Doyle... the fisheye lens is really quite cool... Another piece of equipment needed before my $100,000 grand auction coming next year lol!!!
I think this is EXCELLENT with the datail and black and white was the way to do this best justice IMO .

Hey Ryan . . . Thanks for the comment. As a matter of fact, this was taken from a window!! NOT a plane! The 52nd floor of the Bank of America has a cocktail lounge called the Carnelian Room with bay windows and a view. Highly recommended!!!!! Thanks for your comment and if you're ever in San Francisco . . . go up there and have an $8.00 beer at the window . . . and enjoy the view. Cameras welcome!! The roof of this building was used for the "Dirty Harry" roof shot in the movie I'm told! Take Care!
