About The hard question here for me is if the part of the train at the left should be left off image. I'd be glad for any ideas.

Thanks a lot for the crop, Jacques! Indeed much of the speedy look seems to vanish, though some amount is retained too. BTW, if it were about what we can *imagine* rather than what the image show, then we would be all born photographers right out of the kindergarten. In other words... imagine some spectator that never has seen a speedy train. If the image hasn't been taken appropriately then the spectator will not imagine anything at all in that direction. Or, on yet another way to say that, if you never saw the majesty of mounts then you can't imagine it out of a badly taken image.

Still, thanks heavens we both know about speedy trains and so we so have a common basis. This doesn't negate the fundaments of good photography but it allows the assumption that we can take some further steps knowing that we speak about the same things. The only question that I have then is: Why should I crop as to destroy the speedy look when I wanted a to have that speedy look on the image? Actually the only thing that I see happening on the very tight crop is a replacement of directed speedy motion by a less well defined direction of motion - much blur-like attitude it it.

BTW, words are never mistaken. It is only a matter of using language carefully in order to express thoughts, and as such it lies well within the range of any thinking mind. Or else... we show each other some images (without saying a single word) and let's see what we will understand of wach other, and if that will incidentally be what each of as also meant. ;-)

Cheers! (At least this word is... standard! ;-))

in fact, the crop I thought you're thinking about is the one I now attach to this reply... so you can easyly see that the speed look is all gone... don't have to see it with my own eyes as I can easyly imagine the result with my mind... as I'm sure you can do, you have enough experience to see what a simple crop can do without really doing it aren't you?
So now we're only talk about words... and what crop do you want :-))
Words are often mistaken... hope now you understand why I say I can imagine that the speed effect will be out if you do "you" crop.

And I am happy if you like it this way, but still consider also my reply to Jacques, Aziz.

Thanks a lot,

Nick

Thanks a lot, Dave!

Still, take a look at my reply and attachment for Jacques if you have the time. I am not really sure about the left side!

About the movement just take a look at my reply to Jacques too, Stan. Perhaps the attachment says something more about the nevessity (or non necessity) of the left part. The "corridor" you refer to is another hard point for me. Does it "vanish" when the left part is cropped off? :-/

Thanks a lot for the thoughts you out into my mind, guys!

Thanks a lot Jacques!

I notice a bit of crypto-laziness this time, ey? "Thinking", or judging by pure imagination is the one thing, but any theory has to be conform to the result of the *experiment*! Or else we all resemble the priests that were "discussing" about their personal "feels" about what the universe should look like, while Galileo invited them to just look through the &%$'#*-telescope. :-o

So, as it is so easy to crop off the left side and *see* what it looks, let's *do* that first, and *then* we "think"! How does the speed look to you now that we have the pure result in our hands? (Attachment). Did anything change considering that?

Cheers and thanks again,

Nick

Cropped off left side after Jacques "instinct".

I think it's good to give the shot a bit of framing like that, Nick! A great perspective shot, as well.

Con un dinamismo que casi marea, excelente la sensación de velocidad. Como siempre una cuidada composición usando las diagonales. Bien por los rojos intensos!

Un abrazo!

I like the two sharing the image, makes the contrast between the two with the colors and shapes. Almost a mini corridor between them. Gives a since of movement and size.
be well, Stan

very nice speed visual, great work Nick, if you don't put the left part, don't think the speed will be as great looking...
