Avi, I am glad you enjoyed it.......I had remembered using your dramatic picture of the Wall Street bull on that one......if you liked that you might also enjoy some of these too. I can only say they are much more dramatic in the HD resolution I master them in so they can be displayed to a large screen but if you are like me you can just appreciate the incredible talent contained in the photograpgy. It's just a pass time as I enjoy working with the different media but I am always glad to share with those that appreciate the photography.

Anytime Chris.. I am a big movie buff, and hence use that particular border in many of my pictures.. it gives a feel of cinemascope :)
cheers,

I loved the look and feel of the picture.......certainly a challenge with the chain link fence and the transition of focus. I even liked the thin white line you added to the framing, very effective. I may just borrow that at some time in the future. Overall wonderful shot, congratulations.

Yeah, the westerns are always classics.. well, at least some of them. I like them too.

It's great to be aquainted with a fellow movie-buff. Don't find too many these days to discuss cinema.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year !

Leora Long Leora Long   {K:11135} 12/19/2009
You are welcome! Perhaps it's your sub-conscious -- but, we actually see things horizontally, unless we have to do a "page" format for poster or portrait effect. It is much more natural and provides much more data for the eye.

Glad to hear about your interest in cinema. I am quite movie crazy myself -- includes watching them on TV. I love the spaghetti westerns with wide angle lenses. And editing video is a thrill for me -- so many elements -- people, color, sound, special effects!

And so easy to get started, even with a cellphone. And some still cameras now have video instead of the other way around. Everythin will soon be going on memory stick.

So what is holding us back?

Best wishes, Leora

Avi  Avi     {K:70138} 12/17/2009
It is very interesting what you say here, Leora. I must admit that I didn't think of it this way when I took the shot, but it is a fact that for me, cinema comes before photography. In fact I was led into photography from cinema, especially film noir.

So maybe this composition was made my sub-conscious...

Very interesting indeed !
Thank you !!
Avi

This is a very cinematic approach, Avi, with the mood set in BW. I can feel the leaves rustling as he disappears alone into the distance. And the end titles come on.

Well done, Leora

It's just not right, Avi, I have always given best possible advise for the benefit of the photographer, I know my works... and I learn trough with less ignorance, of course I'm human but it doesn't make sense when the majority of the photographers here praising no matter what it is...even good photographers uploading crops and there no single advice or correction. It seems odd for someone to step out and say something, any way sorry again for posting my concern….
Cheers,
Harry

Hi Avi, No offense seems any time I leave a critic on a popular photographer notice a surge of a sympathetic sometime to extreme praise that’s one main reason
Photography here depends on commentary friends and not the actual!Tired of this high balloon air, rather stay a way my self from giving critics!!!!

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique E*x*c*e*l*l*e*n*t! Perfect control of focus for creating the scene, that might have been different in reality but reveals its essence on the image! The concentration of focus on the foreground and the gradual dissolving of the depth takes much of the importance of the walking person! It is only a person, who knows who, walking on the *street* - the scene itself! I've seen many street images but just a few of them manage to draw its special kind of isolation as well as this images does!

Hat off again!

Nick

Dear Mohammad,

First of all, welcome back. Did I miss you ? Ohhhh YESS !!!.. I will hope that I will see some of your excellent work in UF now.

As for my work, I guess you DO know me a little. So you can connect with my thought process. I am SO HAPPY to find that the depth, the intensity of my thoughts, which I try to portray through my photos is understood very well by such a dear friend. You really made my day, yaar !!

Salaam, and a big hug !

Dear Avi,
Such a great work here, really simple but very deep for me.
You know, I always love your shots, I don't know why, but they all have some kindness that I think it has a deep rot in your personality, I'm sure no eyes can see what the soul can't see itself, so, this softness, this tenderness has something to do with your soul. Such a sensitive soul can feel comfort in this view you post here, no matter how is the composition, color tone or any other technical stuff, the mind is beauty.
Keep up these good works, I will always love to see your valuable works,
Very well done.
Mohammad Porooshani

bhalo hoyechhe Avi, really, just wanted to add that since u've chosen a good pov, try it with some dynamic subject. this particular goes very well too, laid back, but some more action, children playing, old lady in contrast (u get the drift?) may look interesting too... i will try it some day may be.

That would be great Harry; but actually I meant something else. I was asking, what are the small things that you would urge me to note while making a composition. What are those little nuances, the small details, add this, leave out that.. you know what I mean, which gives it a perfect sense of accomplishment for an artist's mind.

Hope I am not botehring you too much. :)

One more think I would really like to learn from you - that is how to see a composition from a painter's perspective. Since I know that you have been an artist for quite some time, and I myself have some small experience there as well.

This, I feel, helps in photography in a BIG way.

Thanks, again !

Avi  Avi     {K:70138} 10/12/2007
To tell you the truth, even I had cropped it like this once, before submitting the image. But then, I thought that maybe the extra pavement is kind of emphasizing the feeling of the single figure being alone in the place. That's why I kept it. But hey, thanks for this !!..

THIS is what I need !!!.. :)

Double Cheers !

Avi perspective wise is great although the extra pavement seems to get the focus out from your subject. I cropped just to show the difference I feel in a plain frame seems more effective!!!
That’s my opinion doesn’t mean is the better one:)
Cheers,
Harry

I like your perspective here, Avi, and the dof is perfect, to have the pedestrian just slightly out of focus.
Dave.
