great friend you have, yes Kanou,Eitoku(1543~1590)was one of Japanese great painter, he worked under two generals--Oda,Nobunaga(1534~1576) and Toyotomi,Hideyosi(1537~1598),and painted on their room walls of their castle, his all works are designated Japanese treasure, your bird photo--this series--are composed so likely of our old style, three haiku(senru) you presented were made in Edo era--about 1700 by the common people and 90% of them are right about their character and the way of goverment. Thanks Ian.
When I first did this I thought somehow it looked japanese but didn't know how. Someone recenly suggested it was like a screen from Momoyama period so I looked that up and the poems are on a wiki for that. Were there particular compositional structural forms in painting? I read that Eitoku he had a "formula" for doing whole rooms... that is not what I am setting out to do, yet.
