About Not Unidentified . . . spinning glass, in motion!
Another thought for the Concentricity project . . . the underside of a spinning bar light from Seagram's. The aqua light emanates in pulsing waves, slowly, since the nested glass globes turn slowly (different directions) and the etched glass surfaces, both inside and outside, reflect the aqua colored light out gently.

I took this at night with a very low background light so that most of the light would come from within. I upped the shutter speed as fast as I could to prevent motion blur, but still allow enough light for a decent exposure . . .

Next . . . I desaturated the image to lose the aqua light (tough call - really) and then I added a Sepia tone . . . Liked it and decided to pull out even more blue to give it this metallic cast.

ps...about to post something for your viewing pleasure, no pondering allowed.

Robin: The other day I got the same treatment talking to Rina!! I'm beginning to feel singled out!! and I've yet to say anything as severe as . . . (shhhhh) H - E - double matchsticks!

TFF is added! Should have heard my argument with the 'Hot' lady . . . clearly NOT a pillbug fan. Eventually, I caught on that she was a recording! Who knew? ;)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

ROTFLMAO...each attempt DID produce an e-mail notification...10 messages within minutes...there's that stick-to-itiveness again, TFF (too freakin' funny...add that to the list).

Ever watch SpongeBob? Plankton's "wife" the computer?...that's the vision I get when thinking about the auto-youknowwhat.

Hilariously yours...Robin

You might know I now feel like a foul mouth sailor but don't know why . . . The auto-nazi has cut ALL my responses . . . which Disney would allow in family viewing cartoons.

Well . . . Thanks Robin! Take your time......I prefer pill bug racing but can't figure how to hook the pill on! Any tips? Oh, Heck . . . any Pills???

FYI: I APPRECIATE the "out on a limb" comment. Anyone should, eh? Do you suppose the next project will be Tarantulas on Your Face? I'D be ready!!! :)

Days later...I'm done pondering now.

Dear Doyle,
What I do like is that you have gone out on a limb (sound familiar?)...stretched your imagination to shoot specifically for the new project, even though (as you have indicated elsewhere) it just doesn't float your boat. For that my friend, you get full marks from me!

The image...looks like a wicker basket with a keyhole in the center which it is NOT, but then again, it IS abstract so we see what we see right...abstract mission accomplished! Hey...wait a minute, did you follow through with the underwater basketweaving? And here I was, ready to offer some serious insight into the pill bug racing world...hmmpf.

Take care...Robin

WOW! Spinning glass? Well I could say that ...could be a car weel!!! You know what I mean, the metal center of the weel in motion!
Nice stability roundly the shape and surely interesting lighting conditions. Think that on a glass or mirror so you have also the reflection of the object you shot.
Best regards!

AJ:

Your comment back then was the first I heard of RainX . . . but that's just one of the MANY variables to make a shot that works . . . something YOU know.

Second . . . thanks so much for comparing me to Hugo and the guy who has a photo of an acorn with a turd. Really. Thanks. I couldn't be in better company!!! LoL!

(Sorry Jan - having defended me I NOW feel racked with guilt for that . . . but I TRULY like the company I'm in)!

Jan: I assume you are referring to my subtle and tactful observations that hint at a tweak here and a touch there.

What I really appreciate on UF is people like yourself, Doyle and Hugo who are prepared to offer genuine advice without doing a hatchet job on every image, unlike some other sites. Kind words are nice, but they lose their impact if there are only kind words!

And credit must also be given where it is due: the Rain-X was down to Dan Lightner (and he knows it - I've thanked him before, but where is he these days?) And the precise timing of the upload was down to you - I saw your Incandescent Bulb and pounced! Unfortunately I understand it has done some damage to Doyle's hair.

AJ -- OK, enough slice & dice on poor Doyle. You know he is sensitive; this is a trait of all self proclaimed genius, if I knew one, that is.
Actually, like Doyle, I think we all appreciate your head-on approach to giving a critique. It certainly has helped me in the past.
Go in peace!!!!! :) :) :)
Still thinking about your using RainX.

No hard feeling Doyle I just had to find out exactly what YOU were chuckeling about ....
I appologize for not asking in a more curtious manner but I guess I feel comfortable with you and I am always curtious... so it just came out:((

Not pretty I know-- I appologize too... because I like to be polite -- I feared you were just giving up on your image and I really like it -- ALOT :)))

Best wishes always,
Michele~

Hi Robin! I believe the keys you are looking for are . . . uhhhhh . . . 'B' - 'S' - 'T' - 'B'? Or are you being HYP-NO-TIZED?? Hmmmm?

Best to take a break - that's a LOT of pondering. How do I hook the pill to the bug? It just keeps falling off? ;)

Whoa! ( ducking ) -

Easy Michele. I'm not laughing AT you . . . I was LoL'ing at the thoroughness of your critique . . . it's something I think you can take great pride in and I was getting a chuckle out of the fact that you would not just say 'Ooooops' and move on but would go back and add it even after the previous comment was made.

Michele I VERY MUCH value your comments and I think you have certainly gotten quite good at analyzing work (yours AND others) . . . and consider myself lucky you comment on mine. Your comment was FAR from funny . . . but I take some satisfaction out of . . . and enjoyment in . . . enthusiasm among photographers . . . including yours. That ALWAYS makes me smile!

For the record . . . I KNOW you don't always give me a 7 and you certainly wouldn't do so if you disliked the photo. I have always trusted you to be honest . . . like AJ and Robin here, for a couple of examples . . . because without that . . . I simply cannot properly evaluate my own work or strive to improve it. Good comments on good work are still helpful . . . they let me know I'm going in the right direction.

So please don't be offended. And, by all means, feel free to comment if you don't like something too . . . Then I will likely play around with you like I did AJ, but all in fun.

No hard feelings???

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Ok John:

As you know . . . it's better to know for sure than to stay up night after agonizingly long night . . . wondering . . . filled with concern about whether or not the shot was even seen, much less appraised . . . . wracked with doubt and unable to function normally in an otherwise rational world . . . concerned for the safety and well being of friends and associates . . . and reflecting as to what time it is when the Pulitzer Prize for Photography Committee makes their famous call . . . and will YOUR phone ring?

Better to know. So you and your jack-booted, thug like, critique can just stomp all over my tiny spark of growing creativity and grind my blossoming aspiration and nascent motivation into the cold, hard cement of the ash covered, oil spattered, dirty parking lot just to appease your 'grumpness' and to be . . . uhhhh . . . honest. LoL!

Ok, I gave you a hard time . . . but what the hey . . . it was fun!!! :) No offense . . . you know I can relate to how hard it is to give this type of critique to a self-admitted genius! Well . . . if I knew a self-admitted Genius! :)

John . . . the critique is excellent and "It's not doing it for me." is really legitimate. Had some concern myself . . . but, like Jan said . . . looking for something. I think the real issue here is that the multiple layers of glass . . . even more than the motion . . . cause an appearance of blur where none exists . . . I was thinking to capitalize on that appearance by the tones and the metallic conversion.

So, while I may have some fun at your expense . . . I would certainly rather know what you think . . . especially you . . . than not know. I'm assuming you would rather know the truth from me too . . . especially in light of that last BiP, eh? LoL!

By the way . . . are you familiar with pill bug racing? HAHAhahahaa

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

It's not funny Doyle-- I do like the image very much- I think it's EXCELLENT - and I do like the crop and frame very much . I may not know as much as YOU about how to get the results I'd like in photography --YET !!!!

But the one thing I do know IS WHAT I LIKE.... now please tell me why you would laugh at my comment ?

Sorry .... I don't mean to sound angry but geesh Doyle---
What I like - Is very important to me -- You may think I just give YOU a 7 Allllll the time - but I don't comment if I don't like it - Ok ?

Regards,
Michele~

Excellent, Doyle, and very creative. Wonderful tone and detail. Losing the aqua color for the sepia was a tough call; not sure how I would have come down on the decision "before the fact". But the sepia is working well to give a mellow and somewhat metallic look to the image.
Darn good idea for the project.
Many of us are going about and pouncing on circles, concentric rigs, spirals and doodads while we try to meet the monthly project challenge. Actually it is quite amusing if you think about it.
--Best to you, Jan
