About A Hairy Field spider (Araneidae sp.)waiting for an unfortunate moth. Industrious orb spinning spiders, they spin a neat orb web every day at nightfall , catches their prey, and before morning light they eat the orb to recycle it for the next evenings web. Taken with the 105mm macro with the ringflash and a small slave unit held underneath the spider to accentuate the bristle hairs on the legs and body.

Thanks Ann for the comments. We also have thos big ones. Called Golden Orb spiders and I am aware of some serious research done to use their silk in bullet proof jackets for their excellent weight:strength ratio.

Hi Eb, thanks for the comments. I have 2 Kako flashlights with a guidenumber of about 15 at 100ISO. Trigger them with 2 Synchro Mat photocells. Had them for years, only start using them now!

Good planning with the lighting, Joggie! Did you trip the slave with a photocell? The strong light appears to come from the bottom and first appears confusing. After the initial impression on can then settle into the remarkable detail!

Excellent details and colour Joggie. The backlighting is very effective. Thank you for explaining how you did it. I have a ring flash on order plus my current flash can be used as a slave, so I will find your 'tutorial' very helpful. One thing I noticed with surprise. Your Orb Weavers eat the old web! I wish ours did. I'm forever walking into one, usually at face height. Ugh! Very scary. They are also sticky and very strong. Cheers, Ann.

Well pretty freaky! THe details on the spider are very well 'writen' from the camera and the focus does not shining, noware except the spider's net, something good! Also the background is the best for these photos, yea, black erase anything else except the object you shot, very good try that worth the excellent rate Joggie.
