I think this image does very well as a black and white, I love the details. Now don't get me wrong I do like it very much, but would have to agree that the flower needs a tad bit of breathing room not so tightly cropped. Just my two cents! :)

Now this is a dramatic shot! the full breadth of tone to surrounded by the black background really brings out the abstract nature and construct of the flowers form and is no longer just about the flower. Very evocative Dave.

I love what you have done here. Not the typical
B&W. It almost has the apparence of being made of glass. What ever you call that effect, I like it. Del.

This is wonderfully detailed monochromatic floral study my dear friend. The conversion to these beautiful tones is excellent and I love the diagonalised tilt to the bloom. The lighting is great and you have superb dof on this difficult to shoot bloom. Well done to you Dave, I still haven't posted a mono toned floral, mine never look right. My very best wishes to you as always.....Ray:)

I expected a cabbage or other vegetable before opening the thumbnail! The black and white is very nicely done as is the lighting, Dave! What is the software (PSP XI)?

Well, Dave, this is really nice. The black and white against the dark background is good. Makes me want to try a similar shot. Regards, Allen

Great image and well done B&W conversion. The petals crisp and sharp, and I love how it floats on the Black background.

Hi Dave,
This one has many good qualities but one not so good. First the good. The conversion looks great with lots of variation in the greyscale. The membranes in the petals show up very well! The angle of the flower is very good.

Now the not so good IMO. Others may disagree if they like.

The flower needs a bit more room to breath in order to have a more effective composition.

I think the thing that stops this one from really excelling is that the stamen and the rest of the flower blend in too much together. Because of this the depth perception is kind of lacking.
I hope this doesn't sound too negative. But I'm trying to be honest.

Now watch this one win an award and make me look stupid :)

Amazing use of black and white. It makes this flower look 3D. Superb

Hi Dave. I'm normally not a friend of taking out wonderful colors to get a b/w image. This one is for sure an exception. It really concentrates the eyes of the viewer to the different grades of shades which are wonderful in this case. Congratulations!

Regards, Markus
