Hi dear Ray!

How are you? :)

Great portrait here, I prefer the color version with those blue eyes but I think her face expression is better captured in the sepia one, it's more natural.

Anyway, well done as usual, my friend.

See you soon ;)

Hi, Ray!

This is a first class portrait - the colour version, too, though I think b&w and colour counts as two separate pictures because the effects are so different.

All the best, as ever -

I so very much appreciate and wonder at the great work you have been doing with this type of photography. This is another fin example of what I am talking about. Nice soft feel, wonderfully posed, great exposure, just the right amount of details!!! Love it.

Wow Ray. I think she's beautiful and your shot did her justice! She oughta' be quite pleased. The color version is also very good . . . a beautiful enchanting smile . . . but the natural serentity inherent in the posted shot is very well done! Excellence my good friend. Nothing less.

Hi Ray,

I've been looking at this now and then...

I think the dark circles under her eyes in the original are ok. Perhaps some softening would...soften the feeling, but I think you want to keep some evidence of this sadness/tiredness/pain.

The color shots are so nice also, really lighten the mood. Well done my friend.

Back pain - yuck. Know it well, for a long time. Wish her the best.

Hi again sweet angel.....just in from my long shift (4pm on Tuesday here) and totally shattered. Just cruising around to see what's going on until my lovely wife gets in.

Amy suffers from a fairly serious bone problem and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the condition. It affects her back in the main and although pain and discomfort stay away for long periods of time sooner or later it catches up with her. I have had many years of practice with my bone and muscle conditions and have got used to them but Amy is only 17 years young....life can be such a b-----d. She still leads a very active life with lots of boyfriend changes but hasn't the best of stamina and doesn't always get sufficient sleep when enduring bad moments...she is still a happy kid most of the time. Hopefully there is a solution to her problem in the near future....

I am pleased to read that you are keeping busy sweetie and because it's work again early tomorrow and yet another thoughtful invite to join them at work on MY Thursday it will be Friday before I start catching up a bit again....heyho. You take care of you you gorgeous creature, catch this little lot XXXXxxxXxxXxxxxx, huh, typical, you dropped one of them again. Big hugs to you and if I hadn't of been quite so tired I could have put all this an an 'e'. 'See' you soon my lovely girl.......Ray

Hey Andre....just came accross this comment my friend and I had a chuckle......Although my current bio pic is reasonably up to date I did amuse myself by taking some self portraits. Now I am accustomed to seeing myself in a mirror from time to time and I can just about live through the experience but when I saw my self-pics taken with the very sharp (and I think more than a little dishonest) Canon f1.4 lens I couldn't recognise the image on the screen through all the newly acquired wrinkles that lined that face that looked quite normal earlier in the day OK OK, the truth.. we see what we want to see in a mirror but that lens is deadly accurate and brutally honest so I think I'll go and fish out more shots of me in my twenties Cheers my good friend, I will experiment on Amy's shadows and get the feel of what you and Rina have written about.....Catch you soon Andre, all the best.....

Hi Ray,
The colour shot is very charming, and may be even better than the one you posted. If I were you I would post this one too!! Why not?

As I said before, the trick with any touch up is to go extremely gradual and save multiple versions. My friend Fadel expained to me once that most people use too much change all at once. Big mistake! I think you can isolate the slightly darker area and just take the darkness down a few percentage points. Every software has it's own methods. All you would be doing is the same thing as adding a touch more light to the area under her eyes.
Like you said, it's good to know you can do it. You never know Ray, you might want to do a self portrait for your Bio and you could take 20 years off your image no problem at all. :) :)
That's something this lovely girl doesn't have to worry about :)
Andre

Ooooh looky... Miracle of miracles, I've said something worthwhile for a change, eh? :)) Yeah, but I think you give me too much credit for being just plain ol' vain (you know, chicks can be like that sometimes). At the end of the day, you've produced a portrait that has such a wonderful warmth and softness that any woman would be proud to display.

The colour version rocks too btw! She has the sweetest smile, you must get her to sit for you again. Amy, WE WANT MORE! :)

I'm sorry to hear Amy's not well though Ray. Nothing too serious, I hope? My thoughts are with her, my friend. Life can be cruel sometimes.

Well, I've been a busy little vegemite of late and have yet to set up some more Spidey shots. I have however, uploaded a shot of Ally for your viewing pleasure ;)

Take care gorgeous,
Rina.

Rina was on the money when she remembered that I do not like interfering with my pics. All I will do for these young ladies is remove the odd facial spot. I have had past requests from various females regarding the removal of double and treble chins and this I have done for them....result, it just wasn't really them, they were pleased, but not me. I have never attempted to do undershadowed eyes but for the experience I will see what I can do.....for fun only. What did you think of the colour shot BTW? I'll attach you a copy as well.

Many thanks again to you for a good sound critique Andre and I have taken on board all that you and the lovely Rina have written. My very best wishes to you as always dear friend.....Ray

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66407} 11/6/2006
Hi Ray,
It looks like I was one day late on my comment! I was trying to think of how to say something about the slightly darker circles around the eyes without sounding too negative. But Rina is absolutely right. It doesn't even have to be an attempt at getting rid of the circles completely. If you over do it, you can make the image look too plastic and unnatural. But easing the transition can make all the difference in the world. Turning a very good portrait into an excellent one.
I love everything else about this image. The pose, the softness, the detail in the wool are all wonderful. She is a very charming young lady. Nicely captured!
Andre

Hiya gorgeous........look what's happened. You've got yourself an award for your comment....well done. I cannot defend the shadowed eyes which are very typical of young Amy and the life she leads. Not a very well young lady and maybe I should have posted a colour one with a smile which I will gladly do now.

Looked for a new posting from you but nothing as yet and I had been away from UF for a little while and expected to see something from favourite OzzieKiwi. Hope you are keeping well sweet Rina and that everything is OK in that upside down world of yours......Kisses and hugs and my veryu best wishes to you as always.......RayXXX

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Wonderful soft portrait again Ray. Love the big woolly jumper and her pose. The only thing I would suggest (and I know you don't like to fiddle too much), is maybe some very careful dodging to lighten the dark circles around her eyes. Alternatively, you can use the healing brush tool, sampling the light area of her cheeks and carefully dab starting from outwards in? It's only a minor thing, but would lift the face enormously.

Hey, hope you're doing ok my cheeky pom. 'See' you again soon!

Cheers
Rina
