About An early settler's cabin in Ramah, New Mexico. Ramah is the home of the Ramah Navajo Chapter.

History from the Navajo chapter on "Ramah":

After the signing of the peace treaty between the Navajo and United States and release from captivity in Fort Sumner, New Mexico in 1868, seven families returned to their original homeland of “Tlohchin” (wild onion). Mormon settlers established Ramah community in the late 1800s.

Thank you Dave. Most important it is to be participating, each one of us, the discoveries, the joys and the beauty from photographs of the others.

Hi Dave, thanks for answering my question..

It also could be too dangerous to go inside ... Looks like the building could collapse and you might never get out !!

Love these buildings tho !!!

Michele~

Thanks, Michele, your comments are appreciated. I didn't go inside this mostly because it was fenced off and secondly because the sun was fading fast.

I do hope to explore some of these buildings I shoot a little more in the future but most are either fenced or have tons of "no trespassing". Maybe thats to try and limit the number of people who just like to destroy things but I am always too "shy" to go in most.

Great use of sepia tone for this one...I like it very much. You got great texture in the building, and the perfect clouds in the sky. Nice one Dave. :)

Thanks Gary. Wish I had been able to find more history... I'm willing to bet this was one of the original Mormon settlers homesteads.

Thank you, Dave! I found this interesting from the fact I've rarely seen log cabins here. The material of choice in NM seems to be adobe brick or rock.

Excellent capture of the old cabin, Dave! You've captured some very good detail and texture in the logs, and the sepia adds the atmosphere.

Gracias, Alicia.

Thank you, Alicia. I would bet this building is at least from the 1870s but I am only guessing at that.

Here is what little history I could find on this town and area:

After the signing of the peace treaty between the Navajo and United States and release from captivity in Fort Sumner, New Mexico in 1868, seven families returned to their original homeland to “Tlohchin” (wild onion). Mormon settlers established Ramah community in the late 1800s.
