About This windmill I took today, the whole construction is made of wood, the lower part is tightened with wooden shelves, en they close the rest of the construction with reed, cut from the waterside to make it resistant against the elements as rain and wind. The blades are made of wood too.
They are still working, but most of the time for tourists, showing them how it works. These one were build to dry this area. As you probably know, most of our country is beneath sealevel, so we struggle with water all the time. These windmills are build about 2 centuries ago, and now they hold them in shape with the help of gifts, and sometimes money from the government.
The Netherlands is a very low country, and ever since the 16th century many Dutch people have been living on land that is below sea level, or even reclaimed from the sea. These areas of land are called polders. In order to make this possible, windmills were used to drain the polders and keep them dry. About 150 years ago there were as many as 10,000 windmills in the Netherlands - most have now been replaced by more powerful draining machines. There are about 1,000 old windmills left today, and although some are still used to pump water out of the soil, most of them are now protected historic monuments that are open for people to visit.

I be happy to show you some very nice windmills. I'm glad you like it, because that's why I made it in the first place. I liked it myself, but it's good to read that you and others like it too.
Thanks and take care,

Klaas

Thanks Hugo for replying to me, I think yours is much better then mine, but I'm not much of a star with photo-editing, I should work on it, but I haven't got the time, very busy working all day. Maybe take the laptop with me on my hollidays in june, and when there is a bad day (hope not) do a little playing with PS.
Thanks again, and as always very much apreciated,

Cheers,

Klaas

Hi Klaas, Thanks for the reply. I think that's already quite an improvement. The mill and it's details come out much stronger, and that adds to the appeal of the photo. Naturally, that's rather subjective, and also more in line with my own preference.... I attached a quick and dirty version of the image I had in mind.

Cheers,

Hugo

More contrast

Thanks Hugo,

for taking notice of my photo, I really apreciate it, and always curious what you think of it. You're right, I didn't do anything with the photo, only framing it. I tried as you told me to give it a bit more contrast, and hereby post it for you to judge it. I'm curious if you think this is a better one.
Did you like the Dandelions with the little bit more contrast?
I hope you'll find the time to look at it.
Thanks again for your contructive comment, and I'm very happy that I made a photo worth looking at.

Cheers to you too, take care,

Klaas

Hi Klaas,

Lovely shot, especially considering the overcast weather. I really like the composition, using the second mill in the backgrount to complete the scene. Just curious, apart from the frame, did you do anything to the image? I get a feeling you didn't (expecially considering your last reply) and that shows it's very well taken. Still, I believe that with a bit of postprocessing (nothing fancy), you could add just that extra touch to really make this pop out - make the greens a bit more vivid and crisp, increase the contrast a bit to make it more lifelike in it's geometry and depth, that sort of thing.... Just a thought.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Riny, about homework..... you didn't bad yourself, what a story, you're right, you've completed my story. And Mel likes it for sure but I suppose you've already read his reply.
Nog een prettige voortzetting van de zondag, en bedankt voor de aanvulling, en natuurlijk voor de mooie Eschedese Windmolen.

You're right Angie, this is a group of three windmills next to another, to the left there are 2 more. The one in the middle is open for the tourists to look at and in the floor is a thic piece of glass to see how the big screw pumpt the water up to a higher level. There's a whole lot of windmills in that area, they're used to keep the area dry.
Thanks and take care,

Klaas

Thank you Klaas ,it is really exciting how people can have similar preferences..in the same time it is normal..nobody can stay indifferent in regard to peoples' constructive work, work that brings general good for many..That's why it is really good to save them even if there are more powerful and more effective designs of energy modulators..
I wish you a nice sunday and look forward to see the image for Laura!

It's good to hear we have a sort of bond, you coming from a town fouded by former Dutch people. Now I'm more or less obligated to look for another one for you. No problem Laura, still a lot of them in very good shape now. We have all kind of windmills, you should see them once, like Mustardmills, Paintmills, Flowermills, Mills to save our country from the water, as this one does and many others, all kind of shapes, and naturally the new ones who have to give us power for our homes. It's good your windmill is saved from the hurricane. No hurricanes in our country, or perhaps sometimes a little one, who only bring damage to very small areas.
Thanks for your very kind words,

Klaas

Hi Rashed, good to hear from you, and glad you liked it. Thanks for your kind comment.
You should next time visit Holland, it has a lot to offer, altough you have to be lucky with the weather.
Take care,

No problem Meldijana, I like to do it, and so is Riny I think. I asked him to start again, so we'll wait and see. The nice people who visit and tell us only it's a nice picture do mean it for the best too, and we can all be friends at this photosite. Thanks, for you mentioning, that people all over the world can virtually see our country, it's good to hear that, and I think Riny think so too, but in fact it is no difference from you showing us a lot of your hometown with yours. So thanks to you too. Laura loves windmills too, so I 'm more or less obligated to take another one for her too. Who knows, in the near future, there are still a lot of old ones saved and kept in good shape.
Have a nice sunday,

Klaas

Well composed, with great details. I love windmills! The small town in which I grew up was founded by families from Holland. The museum is a windmill. It has the same shape as this one. Luckily it did not suffer much damage from the hurricane last Sept.

Hi Meldijana, i'm very happyto hear that you like it.
You'll find the answer in the "about". Nothing wrong with your eyes, I forgot to put it there, but you've shaked me and I'm awake now. Riny mentioned it was National Windmill day today, and that brought me to the idea to take a trip to another part of our country to take this windmill especialy for you, so I'm glad you like it.
All the best to you too,

Klaas

Thanks Klaas, this is really wonderful image ..great colours and composition..I'm quite honoured with it and I appreciate that very much.
It looks as the wings and basemnet are made of wood, and the main construction of some other material..or I'm wrong. And they are still in function, and if it is so , is the wind the only controlling force for the functioning? Very nice work, congratulations,my friend!
All the best
