About
Please view at full panoramic size and then let me tell you a little story concerning the meaning of this piece of work explaining the images one by one from right to left:
“TYPHOON”, (aka “9/11/1992”): At least one 'Man-Made' and one 'Natural' disaster has happened on this now 'Infamous' day and month but different year when the Island of Kauai west of me was practically destroyed! This 'Artistic' reinactment instead of 'Destructive' aftermath of Hurricane 'INIKI' was reconstructed 'On Location' with a Cokin #002 Orange and a Speed Filter rotated about 1/8th of a turn clock-wise for effect. An Internet search by the title of this hurricane is available if you take a compassionate interest.
“KALAPANA”: Sometimes 'Natural Disasters' take a long time to complete their actions. The second most active volcano in the world is called Kilauea on the Big Island of Hawaii, but yet has been the least destructive of all volcanoes thus far. In April of 1990 there were new eruptions and a new vent, (tube), was formed called Kupaianaha. For the next nine months until January of 1991 the people of Kalapana, (a quaint little fishing village), slowly and painfully watched the flow claim their town which is no more and buried under 60 feet of lava. This image is dedicated to those residents. On a technical note this is an Artistic Reinactment of 'Fire in the Sky and in the Water' created by the use of a Cokin #002 Orange and a Multi-Image 5 ‘On Location’, ('Manipulation-in-the-Field' so to speak). An Internet search by the title of this image is available if you would like to take a compassionate interest.
“RAYS OF HOPE”: The point of all this is "No matter what happens to us whether brought on by nature, physiologically, or otherwise ... the sun will set and rise for a 'New Day' full of hope and new positive possibilities for healing, rejuvination, and growth. It's just a cycle in life no matter how great the catastrophe!"
Thanks for your valuable time and Best of Regards!
Hi Douglas - My compliments on an excellnt job, including the quality of photography (keeping in mind it was still done on film with little leeway for exposure mistakes)and forthe work on the collage. The photos compliment each other well with the more orange on in the middle. My only critique would be the order of the shots. Personally and with the title & about in mind, I would put the "Typhoon" on the left, then "Kalapana" and then "Rays of Hope" to the right to follow the idea of Hope through and after the disasters. Thanks for your elborate info and a very interesting series of superb images. Regards. Joggie
Douglas, I watched every shot separately, several times after you posted them, but I must say I definitely prefer this collage! It has substance and your "about" is so very interesting! Plus, the three shots go extremely well together, they compliment one another well. An amazing and thoughtful creation. My compliments! Gabriela
very nice pictures and i like the idea.. your about is very interesting too... my only comment would be on the typhoon... I live in a typhoon country and during this time, we see no sun, everything is gloomy and wet.. I like the kalapana clouds, great capture... nice title and concept... regards...
