About Another in My Wife's Black Jacket series. As we were checking out of our hotel after my son's wedding, I noticed this orchid on the counter. My wife was wearing her (now famous :-) black jacket. I had my son hold up the black jacket while I snapped this picture (as the lobby was quite dark, I used flash). The fellow at the desk commented with a smile, "Hey! That'll cost ya." Hence the title.

I don't normally add digital frames to my photos but in this case the thin grey line seems to add a lot. I would be interested in hearing your opinions on this.

A large print of this image is now hanging in the lobby of the hotel. Hey! the guy said he wanted to be paid :-).

Beautifully composed Jim and another wonderful example of how famous a black jacket can become. Excellent detailing and gorgeous pastel-like colour tones. Well done you for this superbly grabbed photographic opportunity. Cheers to you Jim......Ray

I find white the most difficult color to film, especially if you must use flash. Flash or bright sun tends to distroy the true color. This come out great. As to frames, I use far fewer than I used to but for most thing I like a very thin black edge, hardly perceptable but so the the photo appears to have a edge, not just fade into space. I think the border you used here does enhance the photo. Del.

I think the framing formalizes the photo - which suits the subject. Very nice tones and great exposure.

A superb composition with wonderful colors and fine clarity, Jim. The thin grey line is nice. Not too bright. I love your use of the black jacket. You show how excellent photography does not need fancy props to be done.
Really nice!!

Thank you for you kind comment on my "Bud" You have a wonderful portfolio. This capture is splenid. I love reading you about. Very funny and creative in such a tight spot. You did a great job in capturing this orchid. The angel at which you caught this is very graceful and plesant.

The composition is splendid Jim. Also the face to face angle I think is a right decision. But what I like most are: the pattern made by the four little, coloured faces and the matching of the colours: green, yellow, orange.
The effects of the flash are visible on the candid, glossy white: pity.
I like this photo very much.
Cheers.

You captured it in an ideal perspective and in an outstanding angle. The composition is very well and the background makes the image extraordinary attractive. I adore the nature. You remind me once more why!
Wish you best: Maxime

I like the idea of the frame in this case, but something bothers me about the flower stem ending at the line. I would probably use a different border or frame because of this. Only an opinion. Anyway, I like the image a lot, also your other flowers in your portfolio

I have been enjoying your portfolio – your flora subjects are quite lovely. I think the frame you added here works really well. I find the line and pattern near the top flower in the background to be a bit distracting, but the flower shot is really quite beautiful.

Yeah, I'm with you, Jim. Seldom does a photo 'need' a frame, but in this case, it does help to contain the image within the engulfing darkness.
