About This is the last of the current series of 360-degree panoramas taken with a circular fisheye lens (four shots at 90 degrees) and then stitched. The only point of the fisheye is to reduce the amount of stitching! The perspective would be exactly the same of I used, say, a 28mm wide-angle lens. It would just involve stitching about 45 shots. )Er, no thank you!)

I do think I like this one the best, Roger. You area having fun with your lens. Your stitching is great. I like the flow of this created by the semi circular ceilings. Very neat.

Ellen, if you use the right software, stitching can be a breeze, even with circular fisheye photos. But there are a few "gotchas" about the actual taking of the photos. If ever we get our panorama forum going here on Usefilm it's one of the things I will be giving advice on. You can save yourself an AWFUL lot of trouble and frustration very simply... or end up with something that simply cannot be stitched at all!

Tanaka San, it's very easy to get something that looks quite good. There is excellent and very reasonably priced software (I use PTgui). But to tweak the image and remove small blemishes so that it stands up to close inspection takes quite a LOT of time and trouble. Maybe more trouble than it is worth... but that may be my inexperience showing.

I don't know how you do it - it seems there's a lot of work in here! - but the result is fascinating! Those pair of semi-spheres above, making the ceilings look like arches, and the same semi-spheres down, making the floors look like floating, my eyes turn in my head, but...I like it! Very interesting!

Three truely amazing panoramic shots Roger and I am in awe of the work you put into them. The details you have captured and the colours as well are awesome. That 8mm lens is something else!! Well done to you for all your hard work and thank-you for sharing....Cheers...Ray

Taking 360-degree panoramas that look good as prints is quite difficult. One degree of freedom you have is to choose what shall be central--I did that with this one. Also for prints I usually trim the tops and bottoms, where the distortion is most severe and there tends to be little of interest visually. The full image is ALWAYS exactly 2:1 (= 360:180).

Hi, 130.

Security guards do not cause much trouble for photographers in Japan. Departments stores can get difficult if they think you are (a) photographing their prices or (b) photographing their customers. But I puttered around for at least 10 or 15 minutes choosing locations and taking photos without anyone cautioning me. And the photo of the square outside the station was taken right in front of a police box.

Not quite sure I understand how this works, but it looks fantastic; the stitching is really good.

Ciprian

very intersting stitdh images, sometimes it makes me dizzy looking at it....
Just curious, are you allowed in Japan to do photography in these places such as mall or in other private places.. because here i always get in trouble with the security guards... : )
well done Roger, intersting shot!
best regards..

OH I get it now, duh it's a 360. I don't know why that took so long to set in I guess it's the way it's presented. Fabulous work Roger. I'll have to try this stiching trick, but not with a fisheye lens that must be a major task.

Of your recent stitched fisheye photos, this could well be the best subject/technique match (at least when looked at like a print). The architecture of the store is such that the distortion is not so obvious and the result looks fairly natural even in this non-VR form. I like it.
