About In the Chinese zodiac that Japan follows, this is the year of the dog. I came across this display of lucky dogs at the New Year outside a traditional Japanese shop selling green tea and hard, seaweed flavoured biscuits. The idea is you buy one of these and display it throughout the year, buying a corresponding animal for each year. I was born in the year of the bull and I leave you to guess what that's supposed to tell people about my character! (and no, it doesn't mean I talk a lot of bull...) I don't know what the two Hullo Kitty dolls are doing there, I'm sure!

I love your discriptive 'abouts' Roger, they are so informative about Japanese customs and the culture of that land. I never knew that the Chinese zodiac had been adopted in Japan, another lesson learned. Wonderful colours and packed with lovely sharp details....I feel like a window shopper. Well done to you Roger....Best wishes..Ray

Roger, this one is by far much better in panoramic! I loved watching it, stopping for a little while from side to side. Of course, I am all too familiar with this kind of display. (My favourites are the "washi" stores and those that display all sorts of Japanese artifacts. And, by the way, I am a Rat!)And all these 12 animals put together make quite a nice collection, depending on size and on the material they are made of.
As always your journalistic shots are interesting to view! Thanks for visiting my site and leaving comments. I appreciate and enjoy it!
Best regards,
Gabriela

Ian: Thank you. This was a special display arranged on the pavement just in front of the show window. I just had the DOF needed to get the display reasonably sharp.

Interesting story as always. Nice shot but it appears as a tad overexposed or this the screen of my laptop?
Roger I replied to your comment and appreciate all the time you spend on it to explain it all to me. Regards, Rob

Went along with a few friends to a trivia night at the local pub, and one of the questions that popped up was 'What was last year?'. From memory, I think we all agreed it was Monkey, but can't for the life of me remember if we got it right! :))

I like this image Roger. Enjoyed looking at it in pano. I've always found these traditional shops a delight to browse. Lots of colourful wares tucked around in little corners and dusty shelves...

Nice post.
Cheers
Rina
